I have just fitted a TD5 binnacle to my 200tdi. I’m happy with it, apart from the brake fluid low oil level sensor doesn’t appear to be connected, and I have some wires “left over” from the old dash wiring.

I used the Retroanaconda website, and this site https://www.landroverexpedition.com...200tdi-defender-td5-dashboard-warning-lights/ to help with the wiring colours.

What I have left is:
white/grey (slate) - possibly low fuel level having wired mine up through the speedo head.
Black/white - no voltage and not short to earth
Purple/orange (red) - again no voltage and not short to earth
Black - short to earth so guessing this was the old earth on the old circuit.

The colours in brackets are the possible original colour as the wiring is faded slightly.

Any help identifying these circuits is appreciated.

After tracing the colours out to the respective lights on the old dash, I have found what they all are.

Black/white - low brake fluid
Purple/orange - seatbelt warning light
White/slate - low fuel
Black - earth for main beam, fog light, and side light tell tales.

Now you have sorted it, I can add the frivolous answer of.....
If you don't have any wires left over, you ain't done it right
