I'm sure I had posted some wanderings here a few years ago but cannot find evidence so here go's:p

I've a pair 3 door 200tdi Discovery's, J & L reg:cool: (also, mrs.Zed has just agreed to buy an ex MOD TUL FFR as a non-runner but thats not been collected yet so...)
anyway...

J609MUT...
metalic green carigawhatever with brown interior, 7 seats & no sunroofs:cool:
exelent workhorse & ebay bargain (£400 with 9 months MOT!) 4+ years ago.
was advertised as 'spares or repair' & the listing said 'mot till april, gearbox leaks oil' and that was about it! so messaged the seller asking if he thought it would drive back (from Peterburger(ish) to Swansea(ish) so about 200 miles & he suggested that it might need the gear-oil topping  so bid placed & RAC joined...
won the auction for the opening price & went to collect.
drove up in mrs's focus with her & spares (water, 4 gallons of diesel, fuses & relays) saw MUT, said to seller I'll change the filters (also had brought some) & he said thhey would be fine so topped up with the 4 gallons of fuel to get on the road...
by coventry (about 60 miles?) the fuel was gone so stopped in motorway services & swapped fuel *& air filters - air filter was black & sorta collapsed! then got back on road with more power & drivability continuing home with nearly 40mpg recorded:cool:
had some fuel system / performance issues traced to the sedimenter being removed & the 'join' allowing air to be drawn into the fuel system eventually killing the injection-pump - first had problems with the engine not turning off with the ignition, eventually replaced the fuel stop solenoid & noticed metal fragments on the old solenoid's plunger so replaced the Injection-pump with a spare & no issues since (except a manifold gasket but that's minor!)

and earning it's living....

mot now out and a boot-floor is being fitted soon & some work on rear inner-arches (first welding since we've owned MUT)

Coincedence that i tripped over another thread here with J610MUT - what has prompted me to post this  (5door https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/1992-200tdi-discovery-with-added-“crunch”.344243/ ) and I did see another in the J6**MUT range for sale probably 18 months ago (ebay, devon / cornwall??) but resisted the urge....

also have an L reg in the same fetching colour and almost identical except 5 seats & diferent roto_O
L625LRX was another on ebay, about 5 years ago, this time local (ish) and £450 but about 5 months mot && basically another 200tdi D1 in bits included:D

7ICLnGi.jpg

this came off the road 4+ years ago needing welding so I fitted a pair of inner-wings & didn't get any further:rolleyes:
did start buying new front outer wings, bonnet & bumper but theres more needed to make tidy.

more ramblings to follow...

some MUT related content....
XN3rzEZ.jpg

the (unhappy) dog in her perch, she normally resides in the cubby between the seats or on top of a rear seat of moved to the 'stored' position...

extreme concentration photo (was a while ago hence the coat / hat)
KN8I3Cx.jpg

Disco doing it's job, hossbox & section D mare off to do something (Mrs. Zed does the falling off:rolleyes:.....)

some LRX related....
JpvfGN1.jpg

so, LRX has been parked in the garden for about 4 years waiting for me to get around to more work....
decided to fit a battery & try starting:eek:
quite painless (after removing the mouse-nest) and fired up once fuel was primed - I 'forgot' about that & the 'tickler' on the pump:rolleyes:
it drives foreward & backwards but theres a problem wit brakes, wonder if a pipe has rotted OR been eaten by a mouse / rat:mad:

more waffle to come:D

-LRX.....
old photo, probably 4+ years ago, chopping out the inner-wing & 'A' pillar rot on LRX, did the same the other side:cool: - then run out of enthusiam for the sills, rear crossmember & probably a boot-floor...
NdtQSLx.jpg
-MUT...
If you've never replaced a heatermotor on a D1 then you've never livedo_O much fun & swearing THEN find out that the new CORRECT heater-fan motor is somewhat diferent:mad:
ADAPT, OVERCOME & SWEAR (LOTS.......):p

not much to report recently:(
Been offered a 300tdi auto Disco for spares, will keep the axles & some mecanical parts but the rest is surplous so will be advertised locally :)
am looking for another 200tdi as donor, some trim parts & a few body-cuts would be niceo_O

non-Disco content...
been working on my t4 (have a few cars... )
GifadlF.jpg

replacing rotten bodywork (yes, t4's disolve:p )
08U8FBU.jpg

measure once, cut twice...
3mm gap is a little more than I wanted:rolleyes:
arSBedC.jpg

welded it anyway:cool:
TngVnEA.jpg

sanded the 'spare' weld back ('flap-discs' on an angle-grinder)
PuUBMgt.jpg

theres a lottle ski of filler neede but I'm not worried about that, future problem if/as&when it's painted....
excuse the pink paint, all the 'nearly' the right reddish aerosol's I have are doomed:mad:
Gp94CCq.jpg

managed to get the door-gap correct as well:eek:
next is to repair the side-door (previous owner's damage, so at least 9 1/2 years old, obviously NOT a high priority:oops:
more to come...

In the middle of stripping my inner wings down at minute looking at the easy on inner wing complete then moving on to boot floor and other bits still trying to work out best way to tackle it all but lots of pictures have been taken

looking at the easy on inner wing complete
I used their innerwings on my '93 (LRX), can see how it was fitted by what I left in place (was the complete innerwing less the headlight support etc.)

I'm thinking of ordering another pair for MUT:cool:
as to the rest of D1 rot, from what I've seen it can be everywhereo_O both of my D1's have rusted in diferent places, MUT has front windscreen pillar & roof rot whereas LRX has rot at the rear of the roof above the rear door:mad: not impossible to repair but just some thoughtfull fabrication if body-cuts are not available...

pam fi duw:D

Rich.

I’m going for the complete inner wing with headlight surround I would send you some pics of mine but there is that much rot I would fill your thread up;););) will be starting a thread on mine once some new parts start appearing

nothing intheresting to report, braved the jungle and mowed a path around LRX
wpg3ZbQ.jpg

starts & drives - not bad as it's been ignored for at least 4 yearso_O
LRX is awaiting a new boot floor & probably more welding:rolleyes:
ISIqMzS.jpg

been going through my spares collection, got a few spare wheel covers and a pair of early front fog lights (from a 1989 200tdi 3 door Dsco that a mate had)

Some good work going on there! Good on you for saving another 2 fine vehicles :)

The 3 and 5 doors most certainly rust in different ways - and it's usually, IME, failed rear window seals in a 3 door that trash the area at the side of the rear seats ...

I think they all suffer with inner wings and A-post maladies - and sun roof drains are the principal issue - after all, the drains don't even run to the outside of the vehicle - they just end part way down the A-post, and hang in mid air at the rear .... I've extended all my drains to avoid having to the A-posts again, anytime soon!

Then there's the sound deadening crap - which is well known as porous and is really only fit for the bin .....

it's amusing that both of my D1's are the rarer non-sunroof models and both are rusteeeeee:p

Rich.

Aye, LR's best corrosion promotion at work ;) ....

If I won the lottery (!), I'd love to strip a 3 door down to just the bare shell, and get it galvanised* - it would literally last for ever :):)

* the shell might not stand that TBF, so hot zinc sprayed might have to do, but still .... the tin worms would be banished :)

few hours tonight replacing the rear wheel-cylinders on a Landrover Ninety (TUL FFW), now nearly ready for it's first mot in 5 years since it's cambelt shreadded
RcV3NMA.jpg

all back togther, well, sort of as I wanted to test-run it before fully assembling (it could have been doomed so a potential waste of time & parts?)
PwzIXOw.jpg

and the reason for the failure? the Landrover was an MOD spec 'fitted for wireless' model so had a secondary 24v alternator mounted on the cambelt housing, this had been removed & the bolts replaced to block the holes & it seems that one bolt was rubbing the cambelt, maybe theres usually enough clearance but it was aparently done by a large independant Landrover speciallist
plain.png

anyway, it runs fine & starts beautifully so no damage worth worrying about (seems to have not bent valves OR pushrods when the belt failed, rare on a diesel...)

more waffle to follow...

Rich.

:eek: that belt was :eek::eek::eek:

Good work there Zed - cleaned up nicely did that :)

Good result too - the old maxim "if you want it doing, DIY" seems to get more relevant every day ....:(

other projects, I'm rebuilding the gearbox for a friend's Mk2 Cortina Lotus, its the '3 rail' (so called the 2000E or 'bullet') type with cast steel casings and '2000E ratio's with a 2.9:1 first gear.
so a few hours work in the sandblasting-cabinet and some lovely clean parts

the car has been off the road for about 10 years for an engine rebuild (the iconic Ford / Lotus 'twin cam') but it was a 'no hurry build, so nothing has been done! anyway, I offered to give the gearbox a refresh as it was easily removed & it was a good call...
the box worked fine & was probably quiet (although it's hard to hear anything ovet the twincam's webber carb soundtrack!) BUT when stripped I noticed the layshaft spindle & it's needle-roller bearings were badly worn - luckily the laygear's bearing tunnel bores were not worn and serviceable.

so the 'quick' refresh of seals & gaskets has developed into a few hunderd £'s worth of new parts...

continuation of the build...
