My Td4 has been getting increasingly difficult to start, initially this was when hot but now also when cold. Once running it seems to perform correctly, idles smoothly and pulls well.
I've checked all connections on fuel related plugs, replaced the camshaft sensor, LP fuel pump and filter and the 'O' ring on the HP pressure regulator.
Leakback tests on the injectors give 14 to 16 ml per minute with the engine at idle, nothing static with ignition on.
I also measure the flow coming back from the return line, this gave 90 ml in 15 seconds (my measuring cup was only 100 ml). As this was from the 'T' piece near the HP pump, it did not include the flow across the top of the 'T' piece back to the tank, so the actual flow would be much more. I rechecked the regulator 'O' ring to make sure I had not damaged it when I changed it, it was OK.
I am now thinking that the problem is the pressure regulator is faulty because the flow seems excessive to me. Anyone had experience with this or have any suggestions?
