Where do we start, if you have a good one then you will have a lot of fun with it, a bad one will drain your pocket. We run a 03 TD4 and had a few probs and a 110 defender which again has cost a bit. Main thing is to get a good warranty with it as the main problems are injectors £170 each abs sensors £200 each. At least you have the TD4 the most reliable of the lot

cheers guys...its an o5 plate td4 -s (2.0D) model... its gonna be moslty a road car for the wife, but i just need it for farm tracks and crossing the odd field to set up when im out shooting etc ... no serious off roading at all...the car i have now i cant even pull up a kerb or layby etc...
the car im gonna buy only has 43k on the clock, full dealer history and looks like new...never had a hard day in its life...
but still, you hear the horror stories and the early models didnt do much for the freelander name.......???
any help or moral supports more then welcome !!
cheers again

The TD 4 engine is nearly fool proof, all engine probs are petrol 1.8 and 2.5’s
From what you say it should be fine for what you need it to do.
Would advise to buy a disco if you could as will give you more options and reliability, but I have driven our TD4 off road and really surprised what it will do , so as long as you get a good warranty have fun

She would not notice the difference and my other half pinched the 110 in the bad weather and i am trying to get it back

We have had our 2005 TD4 for about 18months now and its ideal - they are so much better to drive than the 1.8 model (we had one previously from new and it was very reliable as well)

its a BMW engine the same in the 3 series, only difference is that the turbo (that can be a prob) is a variable vane turbo to give you low end torque. As long as you service it at the regular intervals will last for years
