This has probably been asked before, but here goes.

Recently I have had the engine warning light come on while driving and at the same time I have had a loss of power. I am still able to drive but at a limp. Switch off the engine and restart and the light has gone out and back to normal driving. Along side this, poor starting and harder starting which is unusual as she normally starts perfectly.
Took her for a long drive yesterday, approx 200 miles and today she just won't start. She'll turn over no problem but no start.
From what I have read, would appear to be fuel pump or pump relay, but wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Thanks,

Rob.

sounds like lp fuel pump, particularly with the symptoms with loss of power and EML.

However, TD4 can also suffer from leaky injectors, which can prevent starting. A leak back test would prove or disprove.

When you turn the ignition on (but don't start) can you hear the fuel pump humming from under the back seat ? should hum for a minute or so ?

good luck, we can solve this !

Just got back from work to find that when I turn the ignition key, there was no pump priming or any noise at all. Could this point to the pump relay?

could be pointing to the pump itself .. ( if not the relay ) ..

the pumps' electric motor will fail at somepoint in its' life
simply 'cause the brushes .. or whatever is used .. will wear out ..
.. the pump is a sealed device .. one cannot dismantle it for repair ..

the harder it works .. the sooner it will wear out 'n fail ..
corrosion on the electric plugs might be a factor ..
lack of lubricant in the diesel fuel .. water/dirt fuel contamination .. will hasten its demise ..
as will a fuel filter that's getting clogged up ..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
it's said that thumping the pump sometimes gets it working
( but If it needs that .. it needs attention to the electrical connections .. or pump replacement .. or both )
checking the relay .. and its plug pins / socket .. should be easy enough ..
btw: if u need to replace the pump .. cheap alternative pumps have been known to fail early ..
best to go for the LR o.e.m. one ..
fuel pump is quite common, symptoms EXACTLY as you describe, make sure you get a genuine LR one as the aftermarket ones don't last anywhere as long.
