sorry to be a pain, but am having a few problems with my freelander. It seems to be gobbling deisel and i wanted to start looking into why. I cannot find the air filter.

is there anything else i need to check to try and inprove the mpg??

thanks:D

Hi, The air filter is at the back of the engine at the top, you need to remove the top plastic cover to get to it, also try adding millers diesel sport for fuel, that seems to give more mpg, about 10 pound a bottle which lasts about 10 full tanks.

pete.

take the yellow oil filler off, undo the 5 allen screws, and the big black cover towards the back of the engine will wiggle off, bit of an awkward one, doesn't just fall off (unlike the doors when wet)

While changing the air filter you might consider changing the 'filter' in the crankcase ventilation valve / Depression Limiter valve.
Do a search on this site for these items.

Couple of pictures where the airfilter and the decompression filter can be seen. 1. is Decompression filter, 2nd is airfilter location in the back (the vertical white cylinder on the left of pic 1 is the airfilter).

Panel filters are a fart and a pain to get to. I removed mine and replaced it with this:

And how did you do the junction between the air arrival and the maf housing please ? (or did you leave the airfilter housing as it is but without the filter in it ??)
