Disco 2 2002 D2 TD5 power steering box.

Hello all,

My power steering box is leaking fluid to the extent of it loses the entire reservoir overnight, I lack the ability to fix things myself atm and so have to employ a mechanic friend, is it worth buying a refurb kit, buying a refurbed box, second hand box off eBay or just buy a brand new one? I plan on keeping the vehicle for quite some time, open to any suggestions.

Depends if it's the box or a knackered pipe.

Yes I suppose more investigation is needed to such an open ended question... I'll report back when I know more...

Clean it up under there with brake cleaner or similar, get all the muck and oily stuff off. Fill the box up, start it and get a good torch underneath and have a good look first.

I would have thought a leak of that size was a problem with the reservoir to pump feed hose.

Yes, that runs very close to the sump and often gets worn through. Mine dumped all its oil on a Caravan Club pitch which did not endear me to the wardens......

The good news is that it's an easy and cheap fix.
