This is my first disco. Its got 110k on the clock with some history. First job was to drop all the oils, engine, front & rear diffs. Couldn't slacken the filler in transfer box so I haven't changed that yet.
Full service, new injector loom & new brake pipes front to rear flexies & new rear flexies.
I want to renew the auto box filter & atf fluid but I seem to have a leak somewhere around there. Also how is easy is it to re-fill the gearbox?
Car drives very well but there seems to be a rumble around 2000-2500 rpm that goes away once its above 2500?
Is there anyone out there that can put there finger on anything like that?

There's some as argue that it's best not to disturb the filter. If you're not careful you can disturb muck and wreck the whole thing, even with a new filter. There are comments around on this if you look. If you do open up the auto box you must keep everything absolutely spotless clean.
A common leak is a little o-ring on the end of the layshaft (at least I think that's what my mechanic said). Looked at first like one of the transfer box seals but we know they aren't leaking, so followed it up higher. Down to do at the next service (and apparently a bit of a pig to get at).

Thanks Pastmaster. I think I've traced a vibration/noise at 2500rpm! Think its coming from one of the propshafts. Tried reving up to 2500 without traveling an found no noise! Once I'm travelling noise changes with load, ie worse at 2500 travelling up hill than that of 2500 rpm on the flat. So I think its prop related.

This rumble is the same as i've been suffering for the last 2 years! search on the net will show it's quite a common problem on the TD5 Auto. I've tried changing loads of parts to try and cure but no luck. A few people on the Australian Land Rover Forum have found changing the drivers side enigine mount sorts it but not an easy job (can inspect mounts from under vehicle through small 10mm ish hole. there should be about 10-12mm between the rubber part of the mount and the bottom part of the mount housing)
 
I had the auto box oil changed on mine, and then had issues, but was resolved as not enough oil put back in, luckily no damage done, I too was going to drop it all and clean the inner filter.

Fuel pressure regulator has started leaking today. Called in a favour (Mate works for Landrover) he has got me a new one:) Only problem mine is the earlier one:doh: Anyone wanting a swap

I've been following these threads on AULRO as my TD5 manual gets harsh (rumbles?) bang on 3K revs and smooths out again quickly. It does it in every gear. I've no idea what causes it but I hardly ever rev my car to 3k so am not too bothered. Although I would like to get to the bottom of it :confused:

And mine (TD5 Auto) rumbles from 65-70mph. We've checked all the obvious causes and drawn a blanko.

Thanks, but as said, we've checked all the obvious (and Front Prop is the most obvious, I agree!)

And it's been doing it for 5 years - prop would have gone by now I think)
 
Changed my Fuel pressure regulator today. How come such a big car has so little space to work in? I've changed the injector loom, cleaned the harness all the way back to the ecu. Everything I have touched has been squeezed into all the tiny spaces! Unreal you would imagine that a car of that size would have miles of space to work in.

A rumbling propshaft will not necessarilly have play in the joints. Lack of grease can cause the joints to dry out and and the roller bearings to parcially seize, this is the rumble / vibration. If left will then cause wear in the bearing casings and you then have the play which causes a bigger vibration. Give it a greasing, you may get away with it. I had a puncture recently and had to replace both the front tyres, this actually got rid of a long standing vibration at 70 mph despite having the original tyres re-balanced previously.
