2001 1.8 petrol clutch

hi guys
had a breakdown in my freelander, lsot drive completely.took it to agarage and they said it was the clutch.
i can select hte gears wit hthe engine running without pressing the pedal but it doesnt move- would his point to the clutch being knackered?
my brother is coming round tomorrow and we are changing the clutch ourselves(he has a lot more mechanical knowledge than me), is there anything to watch out for when doin these or is it fairly straight forward?

could it be your clutch actuating arm has seized where it enters bellhousing, check all the externals before dismantling.
