I thought some of you might like to see my latest project on my SIII. It's a 200tdi engine from a Discovery, using the Disco intercooler (turned upside down), Disco main radiator, modified Disco air cleaner bolted to timing case and most of the Disco induction turbo pipework, with a large bore Steve Parker exhaust system.

It's nearly ready to be started.

nice work!! you need to write a "how to" so that it can be stuck to the top of the forum and no one need ever ask about how to fit one again! :Dlooks a tidy job though, hope she fires up fine!!

Cheers doobie. Yea, I'll do a full write up once it's all finished. I had the engine running before I removed it from the Disco so all should be well.

that looks really smart mate! how much clearance do you have for the turbo? i have always been told they hit the chassis

looks ok on that one, its gone in nice , were thinkin of doin a 109 but like yer say craddocks told me not to bother , for the same reason  typical !

haha i need an injector pump an all the bolts as they are all missing from mine, i got it as a part stripped engine, it was free so i aint complaining, but its a job of work trying to find the correct bolts for all the holes and the crank pully is as tight as a nuns chuff and i can't get the bugger loose, me injector pump puts fuel up the waste gate vac tube

So thats how you get the intercooler to fit, I was planning on chopping up the front panel, that look a lot easier.
My 300tdi does not look as cool, the engine is in now though.
Did you struggle getting the flywheel housiing to mate with the 'box, I struggled like a fart the other day getting mine to mate up, ended up taking the clutch basket and plate out, it was a right basterd.
Whats your plans re exhaust, and did the engine have a power steering pump?.

Cheers G-man. I've got about 35mm clearance between the chassis rail and the main body of the turbo and about 60mm clearance under the turbo outlet, but I'm doing the conversion on an 88". Unfortunately the 109" chassis is about 55mm higher at that point so the turbo on a 200tdi Disco engine would foul the chassis. You need the exhaust fannymould off a Defender 200tdi I think. I wander if the ex. manifold off a 90/110 TD (not tdi) engine would go on?

looks good mate i look forward to seeing it soon. just dont get it stuck in a deep muddy hole this time

I've heard baby Jacob has arrived. You and Lucy must be chuffed. I hope you're going to start Jacob off early with the Land-Rover indoctrination! What's the latest with that trip in September then? - I haven't heard anything from dirty. I'm making sure I take plenty of photos of that engine bay while it's looking nice and shiny, because it'll never look the same after getting it stuck in the next 3 foot deep mud hole!

I have chopped up the front pannel a bit to get some reasonable airflow to the intercooler. I've seen some photos somewhere on the web of a tidy looking intercooler installation infront of the main radiator, but that was using a 300tdi intercooler which have the ports in a different place. I think doing it that way would make it tricky to fit a cooling fan though. With my set up there is plenty of room in front of the radiator for a 15" Kenlowe electric cooling fan. I followed the procedure given on the Glencoyne 200Di web page for adapting the flywheel housing for the series box and it wasn't too difficult. I've bought this exhaust from Steve Parker: Steve Parker Land Rover Servicing, Land Rover Spares and Repairs It's made specially for the job. The engine did have a power steering pump which I've removed, along with it's mounting braket. I've repositioned the alternator more or less where the PAS pump used to go by unbolting the 3 bolts holding the alternator together, turning the front section 120 degrees and bolting it all back together. It's mounted to the block using a standard SIII alternator mounting bracket with a 41mm long spacer to move it forward. I don't know how much of this applies to the 300tdi engine.

Ahh... but you can't deny there's good entartainment value in watching me my thrash my old SIII (on it's road tyres) to within an inch of it's life trying to keep up with all the coilers on their chunky gripster tyres.
