Righto, with my tdi conv nearing completion I've gotta decide which type of fan I want to cool it with. Basically I'm having trouble plumbing the radiator, as the viscous fan gets in the way. I know that with UK temperatures, the Tdi can survive with no fans at all - but we will be expeditioning in Morocco in September, so the temperatures will be pretty high - between 30 and 40 degrees. I have a brand new radiator, so will an electric fan or twin electric fans suffice?

Cheers all :)

So you reckon a decent leccy fan should keep the engine happy enough? We won't be doing any dune driving or anything, the worst it will see will be slow/low range uphill climbs on solid ground.

Why would an electric fan not work as well as the viscous job? I think you're worrying unecessarily. Is your temperature guage working properly? If it is, just keep an eye on it when the going gets a bit harder - if not, fix it!

So yes, an electric fan will work just as well - it blows (or sucks) air over the radiator.

I'd also recommend one of these infra-red thermometers. I got mine off the 'bay for less than £20 and everyone thinks it's fab! Piece of p**s to point it at the water pipes / radiator and make sure everything is as it should be.

Ian.

Nice one, yeah I think I will get one of the guns. Cheers.
