Hi everyone,

After a number of years with Triumphs and MGs I've finally got my first Landy - a 200 tdi.

First problem is that on the way home the clutch went. The pedals drops to the floor with hardly any resistance and stays there.

Before I go taking the gearbox and transfer box apart, is there a possibility it could be hydraulics? Master cylinder is above the pedal box but where should i find the slave?

Thanks in advance,

Kieran

Trace the hydraulic pipe from the master cylinder, the slave cyl will be at the other end:rolleyes:
Could be the clutch release fork has worn through on the pivot point, which is a split engine and gearbox job (there is no need to split gearbox and transfer box)

if on resistance it sound like you have air in the system is there any fluid in the reservoir? if not you have a leak check for leaks if non re bleed system an see if that helps before you go jumping in taking the gearbox out cos you will end up with fat knackers cos they are fookin heavy

Right then chaps, on further inspection the squiggly bit of solid pipe going into the slave had snapped. So I've got a new one of these but still getting no pedal resistance.

Took the slave out again to check the rod was still attached and noticed that i could push it all the way in with no resistance. That'd be why then!

I'll order a new clutch kit today but is it also worth getting a fork kit at the same time? I'm guessing either the release bearing has gone or the pressure plate disintegrated?! Any ideas?

Cheers.

I am suspecting as already has been said that the release arm/fork as worn thru at the pivot. You'll see when you get it apart.

I would get a new fork (there are re-enforced ones on the market, but if you are handy with a MIG then you can mod a normal one) and a new release bearing if that is not in the kit.

130 spec and OEM bearings it is then!

I stripped everything back this afternoon and connected up the engine hoist, ready to separate the box and engine tomorrow morning. Once it's apart and I can see whats going on, I'll pop down the road and get the necessary parts.

Hopefully it'll be all back together by the end of tomorrow!

On another note, I'm now aware just how bad the bulkhead is in places...
