2 stroke oil in diesel

Hi... I have been seeing allot of activity on the forums about adding 2 stroke oil to diesel. Allot of positive comments..... much quieter engines and better mpg. Apprantly cheap 2 stroke is best .... low ash ... don't use synthetic as it does not burn (could effect exhaust)....

My brother is using it in his 03 diesel mondy ..... and has very positive reports mpg gone from 43 to 47 and much quieter with less smoke. He uses 250:1 mix.

I have just filled up my TD4 .... and have put 250ml of Tesco's finest in....will report back.

I know these is an old thread about this ....... I think it is time to revisit.:welcome2:

Interested so just put comment to keep an eye on it. I am using Millers - seems good stuff.

another millers user here. used two stroke in my defender with good results..not tried the TD4 yet though -keep us posted!

My brother has done a fair bit of research and it transpires BMW did some research into diesel additives .... as they were having problems with varying quality of fuel across eu ..... issues such as ultra low sulpher.... effecting injectors etc. Apprantly they found the most benefit from low smoke 2 stroke ..... as this improved lubrication ......... which is greatly reduced with ultra low sulpher. Regarding Millers....not sure of it's lubricating properties....I know it improves cetain levels ........... will keep you all posted.
For the record my truck averages around 38mpg with 40mpg on a run at 65-70with no additives.

Keen to know the outcome as i have always been too feeble to try it myself! Had used milers but really didnt notice any difference, Comma diesel magic though did work, it felt smoother with a slightly improved pick up, not sure if its really worth the extra though.

if you are burning oils with longer hydrocarbon chains, will you not be gumming up your EGR valve quicker and affecting the emissions?

Have been useing 2 stroke in my freelander xedi for the past 12 months.It is quieter
and smoother.Have had no adverse affects.

I used it in my old car (a diesel Skoda Fabia vRS)

It used to annoy me, the amount of black smoke it kicked out when pulling away at junctions, was almost embarrasing. Checked the whole turbo system for leaks etc, all was fine.

Millers DPS4 was recommended to me, so tried that. Ran a whole bottle through it over the course of a few months, and didnt really make much of a difference to smoke, performance or economy...

On a different forum, they were raving about how good 2 stroke oil was for a diesel. I thought "why not, its cheaper than Millers"....
Not only did it practically clear up all the smoke after 2 tanks of diesel, it was starting smoother and easier. Engine ran much, much smoother. Went from approx 60mpg, to 68mpg. And extra lubrication for the pumps and injectors cant be a bad thing

Ran it like that for approx 6 months. When it came to MOT time, the tester even commented on how low the emissions were.
I later found out that the car had been re-mapped, which would have made it even more smokey

I ended up running the car for 3 years in total with 2 stroke oil, and covered 40k miles, with no adverse effects
Big fan off the stuff, and would recommend it to anyone

All sounds interesting......so am I right in thinking about 200ml of 2 stroke to a tank? got to be worth a try....

I have often wondered how the different oil companies' diesel variants (bio, low sulphur, excellium, V-power etc) get away with charging higher prices and they often boast that they have different additives to justify their prices.

Playing devil's advocate here - is it best to use cheap diesel and bung in some Millers, 2-stroke oil, Comma stuff etc, or simply use one of the so-called 'performance' blends straight from the pump? Maybe V-power simply has 2-stroke oil added!

On the 2-stroke oil, I'd never heard of it so like many of the other guys I'm interested to see how you get on with it. I use millers as well & it's brilliant with a small increase in economy along with an improvement in performance though I've got to run it at double dose level.

Tesco's finest for me, usually with 5p off per litre

Tesco for me also and that's after working 26 years for Shell, to be honest the nearest Shell garage is about 20 miles away so the cost of a two way journey more than outweighs any savings I could make in increased MPG.

Hi all well I am using 250ml to 52 lts approx 250:1. Car runs much smoother, especially from cold - don't know about mpg things are looking promising, early days....power wise the engine feels more flexible ...... this is not just a feeling....I have a nasty right hand corner to negotiate that is very steep .... truck is quite happy to sail around in 3rd and pull hard from low revs......... previous to this it would struggle...... at the moment I would highly recommend..........will keep you posted.

I've dosed 100ml of 2-stroke to my 3/4 full tank and am having no problems, regularly use millers to keep my injectors clean and happy...engine does seem less "rattly" under load/revs from cold with even the small amount I added!

Interesting fred. Can yer put any of this stuff in a v6 hippo to make it betterer? Thats a v6 petrol by the way, or is it diesels only.

use octane boost for petre and use cetane boost for diesel. If they check your diesel then will show its tampered. (DNA)
