Hi
Has anyone ever put a disco engine in a defender?
Want to put a 200 lump in my defender as TD is knackered. Was considering getting a old disco just for the engine as they are more readily available but..........
have just enquired with the bloke that did my clutch as to how much to fit, where to get an engine from etc. He told me that a discovery that engines will fit in a defender but you either need to relocate things (turbo) in the engine as they are in a diff place or you need to cut out your inner arches!!!! Never heard that one before. I certainly don't want to start choppinhg up my beloved landy as the chassy is about the only thing its got going for it! Obviously would like a defender engine but they are even more rare than rocking horse ****!!! & expensive . Any ideas anyone??
Getting despirate now!!!!

A few ideas...
You could get your 2.5TD reconditioned if ancilaries like turbo and injection pump are still ok.
Try ebay, defender engines do occasionally come up though they cost a fortune. simmonites occasionally get them in, but they are very pricey £2500+.
AFAIK its only the manifolds that are different between the defender and disco 200tdis, the disco ones are tuned to give a bit more power too. suppose you could get the defender manifolds and bolt them onto a disco engine.

Yeah mines pretty knackered! + would cost nearly as much to get it reconditioned. Would consider it if it was already a 200, but TD are pretty crap anyway. Can get 200 & 300's from a place about 25 mins away for £1250 or there's a place in surrey for £995 service exchange but thats about 4 hours drive!

Keep looking!

There are differences Position of turbo.,and exhaust. Also might need radiator and intercooler swapping. Never done one myself but have seen one done. Have even seen a Range Rover 2.4 turbo put into a Lightweight.
