hi really need some help,
recently bought a 2.5 auto which drives spot on apart from when you start engine it comes up with gear box fault, after it beeps and comes up with fault msg on dash it drives fine but wont change gear any later than 3000 rpm, kick down also doesn't want to work properly either. When you first turn ignition on you can press the sport button and it lights up but as soon as you start it gear box fault comes up then when you try and press it again nothing happens.

i have checked earths
and battery
and alternator which shows 13.8 v when running
and i have also checked that box goes from high to low, that all looked fine

i have also changes fuse box, but still no joy.

could it be the transmission ecu or transfer box ecu ? what part number should be on the ecu ?

Check the oil level in the gearbox, low oil = strange shifting, no kickdown, no torque converter lock up, many strange things happen with low oil level:( simple things first;)

Gearbox fault messages are a common sign of battery problems, 13.8 volts with the engine running is too low, after a few minutes it should be more like 14.5 volts. I reckon your battery is duff, or possibly your alternator. What is the voltage with the engine stopped? After 30 minutes it should be reading about 12.8 volts.
