2.25 s111 lurching

    Hi my s111 was going fine until the other day after about 5 minutes driving she started lurching. I gave her a bit of clutch and that seemed to ease it. Going up hill required full throttle and feathering of clutch. I had to get towed home! Suspecting a dirty carb. (I've a weber 34 ICH) I took off the carb and it looked fairly murky in the bowel and carb filter was fairly dirty too!After blowing out filter, removing the jets and blowing out with compressed air. I also put a new fuel filter in line for good measure.
    After putting everything back ,priming the lines and running her for 10 mins again..same problem..running rough...if left to idle she'd cut out...any ideas?

    Did you clean all of the jets. My dad's 109 had the same problem which was cured by stripping the carb right down twice cleaning the jets out fully. Turned out the fuel line had started to degrade on the carb side of the inline filter.

    Thanks for the reply..I cleaned 3 jets..2 in the bowl and one on top..perhaps I should give the carb another go...Merry Christmas!

    Well, I took the carb. out again and cleaned everthing I could and put every thing back together. After reinstalling and priming the lines..started her up..she started alright but then struggled to stay going. Then no sign of starting..left it over night and she started and idled for a while struggled and cut out..then she would n't turn over..Checked the plugs ..they were failry sooty. I cleaned and gapped...but she's still struggling..fuel pump?

    If your plugs are sooty it ususally indicates that there is unburnt fuel.

    Have you checked your ignition timing and gapped your points, as that would give you poor running and a lack of power?

    Sudden loss of power, carb clean, plugs sooty? Sounds like condensor failure.

    Folks...thanks for continueing the thread..just a update since christmas..I've been tipping away in my spare time and dry nights!:)

    • I've drained the fuel tank (not much crap in it so i put it back in less the crap)
    • Removed the filter bowl and pump (seems to be OK)
    • Rebuilt the Carb (again) using this time a service kit with new gaskets etc and put fresh gaskets on spacer blocks off the manifold under the carb.
    • New plugs (Just in case!)
    • Hoping carb is OK tried Vacuum advance. Found a split in the tube to vacuum advance from the carb. which I repaired. Could n't see the points moving while testing Vacuum advance so now I'm thinking it the dist. So Bought a complete new distributor from Paddocks.Tried fitting it but then she would n't even turn over( I'll have to do a bit of work on the timing me thinks! Put back the old one this morning and one turn of the key and she started! I was even even able to press the accellerator and she rev'ed up( a bit lumpy..but I could rev her...progress I thought. This was not to last soon again the idle begin to struggle and stall. Starting and idling pressing the acc she just dies. She can n'ar take it c'ptain!.:doh:
    I'll work on getting the new dist. working..that should test the condensor and gap theories and take the dist. out of the equation!
    I've been looking at a few threads about kangarooing and stalling for inspiration. Update to follow!!:confused:

    SUCCESS ! Changing out the dizzy worked! Just eyeballed the timing as I don't have a stobe...but she's going..thanks for the responses.

    I was having very same problems with my weber, after fitting a replacement engine, everything else being the same, but after much fiddling, with timing, cleaning, replacing jets, cleaning again, checking fuel filters, etc etc...I decided to put my Zenith back on..... bingo, problem solved! I do really like the Zenith.. It seems more responsive.
