1st. service

Hello and nice to have found this site.I have a Disco td5'01 and am about to service for the 1st .time MYSELF! Any advice hughly appreciated.

beware of cheap fuel filters. They like to play up. Fill the new fuel filter with diesel before fitting it. If you don't do this you will need to spend 10 mins purging the sysytem of air. To do this turn the ignition on and wait for the fuel pump to stop priming. Then deck the throttle pedal 5 times in quick succession. The fuel pump will then start priming again for about 3 mins. You may have to repeat this step more than once. Don't try and start the vehicle until the fuel pump has quietened back down. You'll only end up with a flat battery or burnt out starter motor from cranking.

when checking your gearbox and axle oils make sure you can undo the filler plugs BEFORE undoing the drain plugs. Don't overtighten the filler plugs, You can wind em right through into the axle/gearbox/transferbox casing if you do.

Make sure you use the correct oils

Don't forget there are 2 oil filters on a TD5.

yep. Just be prepared for it to take 3 times longer than you expect it to when doing it for the first time.
