There is a lot of doom and gloom out there.... I'm getting fed up with my 19j dropping oil over the drive.. I have re done the crank seal and the sump gasket... Still oil leak.. I think excessive crank case pressure.... I was leaning towards the 200tdi route.. However I quite fancy a V8 with a carb a Chrome filter and a red block.... Yes I know the economy is an issue, but I'm only getting 20mpg out of the 19j.. Do I need a different bell housing to stop the engine fouling the bulkhead, will the gearbox shaft be too short? I suppose I'll need to weld new engine mounts... I'm looking for positives here...

Well not directly related.. but I have a Disco with the 4.6 V8 in it - and on a run it gets 17mpg to US gallons.. not sure how that converts.. but probably at least 18mpg ... so you won't lose much fuel economy with a V8, and I'm sure you'll appreciate the smooth power...

I'm no stranger to V8s...... I used to have an XKR ... And that would do 25mpg on a run.... I just don't want to modify the bulkhead..or change the gearbox.. nice hat BTW...

Positives? Much nicer engine noise and it won't sound like a biscuit tin full of marbles. My old 19j used to do around 25-30mpg, now got a 300tdi and the difference is night and day, still approx 30mpg though

Going down the 300 route myself... Just off today to strip it out of a Doner vehicle... Will a 300 disco rad fit my 90
