1998 Discover V8 Auto not going into reverse very well.

I wish I had found Landy Zone sooner!

I have just bought an a LPG Disco ES V8i Auto and it won't go into reverse very well at all. If you float aroung N and slowly go to R it will most of the time ingage but some times will take 4 or 5 attemps. As i live in the sticks and seem to spend my whole life reversing for X5's! it is becoming a bit of a pain.
I phoned the guy i bought it from and he said it had just had a new selector cable fitted and will probably need adjusting. is this true and if yes how easy is it to do?
I have checked the fluid level and all seems fine.
Does anyone have any ideas??

:welcome2: He may be right but you will require a workshop manual to show how to do it, it's not covered in a Haynes manual.

I will have a look into it. I think i have also noticed when pulling away it seems to pull away in 2nd not 1st. could this be linked?
