Good Evening #

I am currently having a problem with my Landy, whenever I turn on my sidelights the headlights come on to(quite faintly but enough to fail an MOT). I have checked out the head/side light switch and full beam switch both work correctly and with them disconnected if i short out the sidelight contacts and it still happens.

Can anyone tell me where the relay is for the sidelights and where about I could get hold of a wiring diagram.

Cheers

Ah think they're actually meant to do that;)

Hmmm.... I'm not sure that's right. Sidelights are sidelights - they shouldn't turn your main lights on - not even a little bit! :p

Okaythen;)
Can ye tell me what this part is then and what it does?

This sounds like the 'Dim-Dip' system, which was fitted to Land Rovers in the 80's and 90's.

To test it -

With the sidelights switched on and the engine running, the headlamps (Dipped Beam) will illuminate at reduced power (I forget what the percentage is).

Leave the sidelights switched on and turn off the engine, the headlamps should extinguish and the sidelights (parking lights) remain on.

The Dim-Dip system uses a connection to the oil pressure switch to determine if the engine is running, or not.

Although no longer required to be fitted, it's not an MOT failure.

Ooh, ooh, please sir!, me sir! - I know :D

I also know what they cost to replace  - I only made that mistake once

The next time it went wrong, I just unplugged it and now the lights work in the time-honoured traditional way ;)
