worn lay shaft bearings get it done asap otherwise it will be scrap

Is it normally the layshaft bearing or the lay shaft?
bearings to start with but much longer then both needs doing asap
Fairly easy thing to do any home, i am a boat mechanic so got all the tools. Guessing gear box out on the bench then start to strip down and replace the bearing
its not so easy without some special pullers
