Ok bout time i got on this since its been off the road for a year now.Maybe a thread will inspire me to keep at it when i need inspiration.

I work sproradically on it due to work commitments taking me abroad but finally ive got my own house with a garage and drive where i can work on it and not worry about the land lord moaning about a land rover in bits on the drive

In better times where it spent its time doing all the winter driving , delivering oil , coal and shopping to me and the neighbours ( and towing out the odd car that dared come in ) taking me skiing to the lecht and cairn gorm , and picking up german hitch hikers.

The first photo i posted on here , the last owners mot bodge im sure it made folk laugh then , i still laugh.

Thats what i found in the holes in the bulkhead and some newspaper. Ive since replaced one door pillar and patched the other, the other i intend to replace now along with the footwell and top corner and outriggers.

Dug it out from the back garden today which involved bleeding the clutch , moving the disco into the back garden ( snapped the alternator belt though when starting so not running great) hosed it off before setting about ripping it apart.

%255BUNSET%255D.jpg

thatll be why i need new outriggers then , as you can see they appear to have been patched in the past, the front welds appear much better than those i guess they didnt take the floor out when they did it , the front sides also been painted that clearly hasnt.

Spot of fab work needed to get my accelerator to fit on.....

Eventually the plan is to shoe horn this engine in from a rotten disco one i aquired from a mates garden.

Needs new tub cappings ( already got a full set of galvanised ones) and rear crossmember, new shocks and springs and bushes and then an mot :)

Doors need the bottoms doing as i did the drivers one and found 2 x 2 in there and some of the welds redoing - the rear esp as it carried the spare.

2 year update......thread from the dead !

well i didnt get started till april this year what with my house sucking all my money and time. also had a brief flirt with a frontera - lifted it and put big boots onbut it was no landrover - flogged that for buttons after a corsa drove into it. BUT project land rover is going forwards now.

Some kind hearted garage had replaced the topcorners of the bulkhead - by removing all the structure --- the roofwas holding my windscreen in place :S

New suspension due to arrive at the house today and a few body panels. i suspect ill be a few grand into this when im finished - but its worth it

it wasnt till i cut it open i decided to keep it ....

in side looked new - i reckon with some paint ill get another 4/5 years out of it - maybe more -Its lasted 27 years thus far im sure itll last a few more yet. I think its launched boats in a previous life - the last 18 inches were buggered - so in steps MIB crossmembers.

I was prepared to fit a galvanised chassis but i like a challenge plus im not 100% sure which direction im going to travel down with this. I dont know what engine im fitting - the disco engines still there but im tempted by a 300 TDI - so i dont want to fit a galvy and then decided to change engine mounts. Im also probably going to use it primarily for RTVs and punch challenges - we have quite an active club up here so chances are its going to get messed about with in respects of roll cage and clearance.

See the shiny shiny. New +5 shocks , challenge mount and dislocation kit. Got a polybush kit and some light duty springs the other day.

Just need some cranked trailing arms and rear suspensions finished !

Got thursday/friday off this week so going to try and tidy up rest of bulkhead and do the out riggers.

Diy inside this weekend unfortunantly :( wood cladding me stairs what a fiddly job :(

Lunch break. Outer wing off measurements taken , rotten footwell cut out , rotten door post cut out old outrigger cut off.

%255BUNSET%255D.jpg

Oi nature . I want my outrigger back !!!

More so , previous mot repair by garage has used a coke can or some other very thin tin to repair the front .... It looks neat welding till you realise they probably could have soldered that patch on its so thin.

Need to finish removing the old footwell but i couldnt have lined it up better if i tried. Ive impressed my self. I just took referance measurements from the body outrigger and he chassis leg. 42" from body outrigger and 14 1/4 " from outside of chassis leg to centre of the hole om outrigger. Offered it all up and didnt need to hit anything

Other side today. Waiting on a new door post to arrive from yrm.

%255BUNSET%255D.jpg

All foam round the heater box holding the water in to rot here.

%255BUNSET%255D.jpg

The outrigger is much more solid on this side so much so i was tempted just to patch the small hole on the rear - but ill never have it so easy to change it for a new one and i have the new one so i will just mtfu and get it changed . Its a scuttery job now - be even harder with the bulkhead back in one piece.

Cut away the rot on the top corner....didnt leave much. It also seems i only bought a n/s top corner cause im a numpty. So ill be fabricating this one. Thank fook i picked up one of them clarke vice mounted sheet folders as i made the inner corner for the other side with the vice and a hammer - wisnae pretty

Worse still im no far off running out of gas :/ the joys of welding outside. - the even better joys of aberdeen is the hobbyweld place is in montrose so its a morning off just to get gas

%255BUNSET%255D.jpg

Needs alot of work with he grinder and a skim of p38 but thats the top corner , footwell and the door post all sorted , and everything lines up as it should. Took a fair bit of fab work to make with just a vice and a press. Had to make it in a few sections and weld it together.

This landrovers about 100% more solid than it was when it went off the road.

Still got the other side to do though.

I did on the areas i was welding onto

I didnt take off much more than necessary hence the burnt appearance of the paint in parts on the HAZ

Looks better in primer - havnt bothered to grind it back. I plan to take the bulkhead off the chassis once its all in place and ill get it grinded back , tidy up some of the hard to access welding and spray it,

Confined to the chassis today , back to my old arc buzzbox for now , no gas and no car- mrs is away racing her bike with the van amd the blingos in having a timing belt and water pump

Coffee break while i wait on some tetrosyl i applied behind where the outrigger will be welded on to, to dry. Found original paint today - all along the front dumb iron under a layer of rags and oil....who would have thought - oil under the filter box on a 19j

nice job, im doing some similar jobs on mine right now although mine was not anywhere near as bad as yours, i found welding the top corners of the bulk head difficult to weld neatly yours is not looking to bad.

is there no possibility to have the chassis galvanized? might last a couple years more

I know a place that will galv it. But ill have to get it blasted first that will cost more than the galv by a long shot

Lets be honest i fully expect it to last another 10years if not more after a clean up an a paint- then looknng after it unlike the owner for the first 20 years

This afternoons been chronic - my buzz box duty cycle is pish. On high current i get about 4cm of decent weld before it cuts out

Still at it. Welding with one hand and holding the torch jn tb other. Thank #### for auto darkin lenses

Determined to have the chassis finished tonight as im back to work monday and laying floor tomorrow
