Hi All, one of the first things on my snag list after buying a defender 110 is to fix the drivers door lock! (can't lock it) I don't live in the best area and so security is a huge concern!

The key on the outside moves the little pin up and down, but it still remains unlocked from the internal and external handle. any advice on here before i take the lock to bits?

Also are there any lock upgrades i can do/buy to make it more secure? i'm pretty worried about my landy getting nicked so a secure lock would be great! I've seen deadbolts etc, but i'd ideally like something that doesn't look obvious from the outside. the current locks look like a screwdriver would open them pretty easily!

P.S: is there a better way to secure this internal handle? the opening linkage keeps popping off!

The locks are poor and yes a screwdriver will probably open it!
Get yourself a disclock for the steering wheel (full cover) and get a pedal lock too.
Don't buy cheap, you will only regret it when your landy disappears :(

Thanks! any recommendations on pedal locks? and any advice for how to fix my drivers side door for now? thank you! :)

Seeing as nobody's having a go at helping you with the door lock I'll give you some options.
I'm assuming all the rods and clips are in place (no reason they shouldn't be unless door trim been off and been playing inside).
First off get the old wd 40 or similar sprayed on and in the lock mechanism. Get it so that, when you push or pull the lock button, it will easily operate (do it with the door open and manually working the lock mechanism) Once its loose and free try locking and unlocking the closed door. If not working try it when you push against the door or pull gently against it. If it works when you push, the striker plate needs adjusted out a bit and vice versa. If still no joy try the striker plate anyway. Check to see if there are any signs its moved any or isn't straight and adjust. I usually put it out first then adjust it in.
You can get security hinges fairly cheaply and I favour the optimill steering boss swivel lock though its a good bit more expensive but worth it imo.
Plenty good options here.

x engineering pedal lock, £180 it covers the entire pedals is very sturdy and is fixed to the landy itself. dead easy to use i can put it on/take off one handed now lol
big dirty disklok and a gearlever lock as well. the more noise they'd need to make to get in and be able to drive it the better. if they really want it they'll drag it out or hiab it away.

Thanks for your help! I managed to sort it in the end, it was the little catch on the body which was too far in, this caused the lock mechanism to only partially lock. Loosening it and pulling it out a little solved the problem :)
I took some pictures to show incase anyone else has similar issues, they're not amazing though sorry.

1981 defender 110? That's clever, the 110 didn't come out till 1983 and the defender till 1991
Fair play, i don't know much about all the different models (yet) but that's what it was sold as!
what does this look like to you? it looks like it's been chopped and changed a bit to me! but i'm interested on your thoughts :)

It's early going by the military doors & windscreen brackets.
Check windscreen, rear side windows & back window they may have year codes on them.
