hi all,
any ideas what the original tyre size was fitted to the 18" hurricane alloys? as i have seen some 255/55/18 and also 255/60/18.
and any one got good prices for tyres?
many thanks
jose.

255/55/R18 is the correct size tyre to put on a P38 with the newer Hurricane 18" wheels. This will allow you to have a spare fit in the spare wheel well with no problems.

The original tyre fitted to the Hurricane wheels from the new Range Rover is 255/60/R18. I had these originally on my P38 and they filled up the wheel arches a bit more than my current 255/55/R18's do.

However, the tyre that LR use on the Hurricanes, the Goodyear Wrangler HP, is a rubbish thing and would always aquaplane at the first possible chance and it was pretty noisy I found. I replaced all the tyres with General Grabber UHP's and have never looked back since, they have good all round traction for most surfaces including snow and mud, they are much quieter than the Goodyears.

I got my tyres from Nene Valley Off Road - 4x4 Tyre Specialists as they are just up the road from me and have the best prices I could find but they do mail order as well so you can have the tyres delivered to you and then have them fitted locally.

Hiya Wills

I thought std fitting was the Scorpions when did they change over?

fortunatlly mine had Scorpions on the back and some real C**p on the front when I bought it.
Whenever you drove in anythink less than a perfect road it would wander all over the carrageway
on my last trip over they got junked for the scopions and the difference was immediate

I think they were Pirelli Scorpions on the factory 18" wheels for the P38. Im referring to the 18" Hurricane wheels from the new L322 when I posted about the Wranglers.

I wondered about the Scorpions when I replaced my tyres but was put off by quite a few negative comments about them over at Rangerovers.net on the forum there. So on the tyre places recommendation I went with the Grabber UHP's instead and I'm pretty impressed by them, certainly ALOT better than the stock Goodyears that I originally had on the wheels.

Never had a problem with Goodyear Wranglers.

The correct tyre sizes are given in the owners handbook including the load ratings, the P38 weighs 2.25 tonnes, you can't just fit any old tyre.
Soon if the new EU regs are fully implemented, only tyres that are homologated for the car will pass the MOT.

This doesn't help.

I have a Disco 2 TD5, and there is no mention of either the Hurricane wheel or the Wrangler's to which I refer.

I ask again: Can I safely fit 245 / 55 / 18 Goodyear Wrangler's to an 18" Hurricane alloy wheel, where it appears that 255 is the "recommended or standard" width for this rim. This isn't "any old tyre" - it's simply fractionally narrower. Hence the question.

http://www.etyres.co.uk/tyre-size-calculator.htm

This shows a diameter reduction of 11mm (comparing 245 to 255) which they state is within limits.

Still worth noting what Data said about 245 not being a manufacturer stated fit. For me the General Grabber AT2 are bloody awesome (255 55 R18).

Hi Stu

THANK YOU - so very helpful (unlike some other arrogant numpties on here).

I hadn't seen this before - feel very reassured that they're good to go!!

Now why couldn't you have found that ya self?? It's been posted on ere countless times. Or are you just a lazy, arrogant C**K dat think everything should be done for ya.. ..

Thanks Stu - so helpful compared to that abusive lowlife Redhand.... his sort just shouldn't be involved in forums... (although that picture of a Hyena is surprisingly appropriate!).

I don't think Data actually mentioned any numbers as I look back over the earlier post - and agree that the general grabbers would be better, but have just sourced 4x Wranglers for just 100 notes and wanted to ensure that they will fit before making a mistake... Sounds like they'll do the job just fine.

I shouldn't be allowed out in public let alone on a public forum. So what's new!! :p
