I'm looking for a set of 15" steel wheels for my 2004 Freelander TD4. There's a guy selling a set of four. Was it so that older steel wheels don't fit later FL1? He says they are 15x5.5 ET46.

Thanks. 2004 FL propably has bigger brakes than early car, I'd assume.

Yes. The larger brakes came in for the 2001MY, when the TD4 engine was introduced.
Why not use 16" Freedom alloys, which were standard on lots of Freelanders, but again, they need to come from a post 2001MY FL1.
16" rims have a better choice of tyres than 15" rims now, as 16 is used as the standard size, for a huge number of 4x4 vehicles, whereas 15" hasn't been a popular size for about 20 years. ;)

I have a limited supply here in Finland. 16" Freedoms would do fine also if I could find a set.

Because of the location we have to have two sets of tires, one set with winter tires. Car came with a 16" alloys with winter tires, which are some noname 5 spokes. I would want to use 15 or 16 for winter.

On all Freelander 1 td4s whether fitting disco wheels or other land rover wheels you could always use 5mm spacers

You can’t fit disco, or any other LR wheels to the FL1, as the hub PCD and centre bore is unique to the FL1, being based on the Honda 5 X 114.3mm PCD, with the 64.1mm bore.
