Is there an adapter you can get that converts the 12v points so you can charge my phone?

Yeah but i wouldn't do it through the inspection lamp sockets. My series 2a has a 12v fag lighter socket. The previous owner just had one installed.

Here. I still don't know what the plunger thing is for tho. Not sure how he fitted it, however i'd suggest you add a whole new control as opposed to an adaptor.

You could make one up easily enough but I agree with the above. install a separate one entirely. you picture looks like you have a series 3 therefore in the centre of the dash should be an oval blacking panel. You can either fit one there or acquire a defender panel which already has one fitted (link: you can get ones without the wiper switch and clock so all that is fitted is the lucas 12v socket). If you do this it has a factory look and does not stand out as being a modern addition. wiring it i in is ver straight forward and if you use the connections at the back of the inspection light socket you will end up with a permanent 12v supply rather than ignition switched.

Is that not a choke? is yours petrol then?

Your 12V sockets are cheap as chips, I have fitted a few in my 90, plus USB's, they even come with a handy backing plate if needed.

Cheers
Nope the choke is on the left of the instrument panel, marked with a C. It's a petrol :)

Yeah i'm just a little apprehensive about using even more electricity. Runs a nice positive, when it's light and not raining ;)

I have one of these wired behind the dash with the sockets in the dash tray. I tried the USB adators that fit in the 12v cig socket but they didn't seem to last long. I use the USB for phones, satnav and now rc car batteries and these power adaptors can put 2A out without buning out. Its on the ign cicuit so its switched. I also have a 50w soler panel and a charge controller with an inbuilt USB, I use this al lot as we can recharge gizmos from the panel while topping up the leisure battery.
