12j engine - which type ?

I've just bought a 12J engine to replace my existing one. It's stamped S12J on the block. Is this a later military engine with the centrifugal oil seperater ?

Military engines are often painted light blue, which might help. The separator suggests a later engine, but they are all long in the tooth now.

The engine is painted light blue and it is ex mod, first put into service in 1998, then released in 2006, so i'd assume it's a very late model, but i won't know about the seperator until it's stripped down. I know it's an outdated engine but i actually quite like it. I'm mainly wondering about the engine codes, as i can't find any information on line.
