As i am lucky enough to have a Discovery as a new car with limited service history . I have booked the car into Aylmer in Herts an Independent Land Rover Garage for a 1200 mile service . This will be my starting block for looking after my 10 year old Discovery . My question is what is involved in a 1200 mile service and price . As this will be the first time i will be using a garage , I have always worked on my own cars. That was easy as they were old diesel Mercedes . but this one is special to me and needs that better care given . I have a policy of changing oil and making sure the breaks and tyres are in top order and my mercedes gave me thousands of miles without complaint . I will do the same to the Discovery with knowing that ther are a few more moving parts to consider . I also made a point of not wanting abs and sunroofs also aircon as this is not needed for me for which means less to go wrong . I cant begin to tell you how much enjoyment i get from driving this car its just like my old friend the Merc but much more satisfying . I also can get 4 work crew onto a site with tools without having to park outside the field . I can now go right to the job without fear of bogging down .

Regards L

you'll be better off doing it yourself.
garage will rip you off as they're all overpriced, you say you've worked on cars then you must know how to do a service, all a garage cares about is making money.

anyway 12k is a small service so........oil & filter, tappets (300tdi), drain fuel filter, check and clean/replace air filter and a check over, thats about it

I agree with the other guys, do the servicing yourself, at least you know it will get done properly.

I serviced my 200Tdi with no previous experience of servicing cars and found it pretty easy following the Haynes manual. I suspect with mine despite having a load of service history, not everything was done as it should have been, like the transfer box and diff oils were thin, mucky and really black and horrible like they hadn't been changed for years. I just did the lot so I know where I am with it now and can follow the service schedules reliably.

Thank you fellas for yor replys . Of to get a Haynes Book and get to work .
Hope i dont have a Couple of spare bits when i have finished .

Cheers all .

Regards L .

You will make a better job, and feel a lot more confident in your Disco if you do it yourself.

Best to do it yourself, they look big but are quite easy to do servicing on as lots of space under the bonnet.

I wanted to do my own servicing for my TD5 but there seems to be no haynes book available. Does anybody have any suggestions?
