Hello,

I am after some advice about the fixing bolts which attach the drop plate on a tow bar into the 2 large holes on the rear crossmember.

I have just tried to remove my old tow bar as I am upgrading to a HICAP one to give me extra trailer clearence. Whilst undoing the large bolts one of them sheared / broke the static nut weld inside the cross member. I had to grind them off and I am now stuck with 2 bolt ends sticking out of the holes and no way of refitting my new towbar.

Has anybody ever done this before? I cant believe I am the only one!

If anybody can see a way round removing these bolts and refitting new ones I am open to suggestions!

Cheers,

Adam

weld another bolt on the end of the sheared ones and unscrew them. Smother it in every penetrating spray you can think of and give it plenty of time to soak before you undo it. I'm not sure if you mean the bolt is stuck in the nut or the nut is spinning inside. This will get a stuck bolt out but not if the nut is spinning I'm afraid.

I would drill straight through if the nut has snapped off and just use a nut and bolt all the way through the crossmember next time.
