As some will be aware, thinking of a V6 transplant into my 1.8 G4 look alike.
Very happy with the plan for all the mechanical stuff, suspension, engine, box etc but when you start looking at electrics there seems to be small differences in feeds to ecu etc from inside the car. Has anyone done this and worked out what looms to transfer from the V6 donor? Looks like it will be a dash out, ccu and internal fuse box change along with any loom that doesn't run to the back of the car.

Just trying to save work whilst thinking it through, has anyone done this... More importantly has anyone done this and it worked!!

Thanks.

It's best to transfer everything over, as it'll save time trouble shooting later on. Obviously lighting harnesses can remain, providing there's nothing else of importance routed in the lighting harnesses. ;)

I'd sat dash out is a must for this project. I ran a new aerial last night, not exactly a hecrulean task in and of itself, until you factor in that he aerial wire is clipped into one of the looms that run along the top end of the bulkhead behind the dash. A few years ago I bought myself an electronic label maker, and I make labels for every plug I remove, by typing the words in twice with a few spaces between the first and second set of words you can then wrap the label around the wiring like the tags you get on the neck of a loaf of bread's poly bag whcih means when you grab a plug its got a label sticking out perpendicular to the wires saying what it is for.

So for example, typing in "REAR SCREEN HEATER____________REAR SCREEN HEATER", gives you a label that wraps around that brnach of the loom where I put the underscores in the quote, and you stick the back of both sets of "REAR SCREEN HEATER" to each other that no matter what way the plug is pointed you'll still be able to see the letters telling you where to plug it in. Personally I find i so much less stressful dealing with wiring thats tagged up like this:

Particularly if you have a mountain of wires like this:

4UOCSZcsDSa_sMXex6t_PQIaCom5G87t9e82KGDXlWoWF4cxal8ErPV5XdssIMJfJ0q0rrXn7CNF4tJ-ZbY_dz-8PcLdgBF__aFMXAY7iUajLKSZ8bmqIqAVvVneXg_v5I-AkF6yPjfEKjH4I8lDT7HiFbXy5l3FWiwC7flImKg4EB7KiLxnF-SLiDbTt7WPQ336Nyc4xdspz6YxJOUmqvAHlCOD-Wglq7jvwdCD2C7u5DSDkKtxdwmEI7ABzRzl9y6yAyUR-ftLtdHdYJH2jCOQ9Zmwt2Wr4T3EeXjWYiZU-a5SHsczY9QKF6CQWNXJYqMql02Z88hoak1jmkj6CwUMj90Vjw0b5BS7gRksX0vZGVS3Bxcw1VUlbF72ocaQKR7iYg8F2NC-wD5ezWSmGe4di3Z-OZfNLpS0wxYnG1ke_5GLqkMATWcqmD4uJBT3nYCF4mQkRRZMl67LgiYzgeM79trGPfoUQyr5QPd1U_ByCZ9UxOourxXTLhxKeFvxyxyhq8JobkVFoKZSZH_6tgcx-m8zqVNcHE2kxbqwHRbVJYyPrBKdEXTjJNWHrb3AL7qPyuoAGu_-E9vEqGDjNDPCGW40F7063gAnxRFzmrRGxLHnuFWJN7rDgtG3sA0Uw1KGR4il0QLxAzUnqsUD_-uE4K4t0YCxxBplq3Q9Xl1-MHI=w679-h1205-no

And if you are doing a full loom transfer you'll have an order of magnitude more wires to deal with. My label maker is something like this, infact its probably just an earlier model of this one, for £23:

Then you are about £4 a tape after that. For a full loom transplant I'd suggest getting a half dozen rolls / tapes in advance, and maye doing different coloured tags for different sections of the loom, as in blue tape for engine bay, white for dash centre console, yellow for fuseboxes etc.

Forgot to say, as far as I can see the engine loom and gearbox looms are pretty much self contained from the electronics box over the F/N/S struts to the engine/gearbox, with a few additional wires running from the electronics enclosure into the bulkhead into the passenger compartment to presumably run behind the dash to the drivers foot well for the fuseboxes and CCU. With the dash out they should be a doddle to remove.
