Hello, first post.

Two weeks ago i fitted front spotlights to the freelander, however the dealer i bought them from has included the wiring booklet saying fog lights.
Anyway, i followed the wiring instructions as per the booklet, and for some reason, when the side lights turned on, so did the driving lamps, but the button on the dash has no effect. So i took the wiring back out.

Google threw up an old thread from here so i looked through it, found a landrover website for info, and it showed up my wiring booklet, but it showed up a different way of wiring up the lights. Which this time made the dash switch light up, but no effect on the spotlights.

These are the lights, and the part No is VUB500960.

Oh and the Nudge bar was fitted as well, another genuine landrover bar, only seen one other fitted and that was at Newark 2 years ago.

Has any one else fitted these lights before?
The wires were blue/purple and went through the bulkhead. But i cant get it figured after that.

VUB500960 are fog lights, i have done the 2003 td4 drining lights and bumper mounted fog lights no problem following LR wiring instructions to the letter. It involved removing dash surround for switch wiring and plugging into the main fuse box below steering wheel.

The instructions has two ways to do it if i remember. One with driving lights fitted and one with out. vice versa for fog lights.

I always thought the pod style lights (500960) were officially "driving lights" so would only come on with the full beam.

the facelifted freelander fog lights are the ones mounted flush with the bumper just to the outside of your pods - these only come on when ignition on, side lights are on and the dash switch on.

I know, i followed the instructions, i took out the clips in the fuse box, plugged it into slot 11. As per guide 17-21 areas.

Its strange why the guide is for fog lights, but the LR accessories call those Driving lamps and the fog lights fit into the blue area on the front bumper.

According to Landrover, ( http://accessories.landrover.com/inter/GetMedia?mediaId=ACBFB0AAC0A801046AD31649DF346721 )page 17 part no. VUB500960 are fog, both are in pods.

They are Foglamps.

If you have standard front foglights fitted, then you fit the 'driving lamps' kit.

If you dont have standard fogllights fitted, you fit the 'foglight kit'.

There is only tiny tiny tiny amount of difference and that all lies in how they are wired up.

You could always make your own loom to wire them up to the main beam if you want them as spotlights.

hi
guys
looking for bumper mounted fog light kit to fit too a 2000 year freelander 2 l xdi
does anyone have a few links to sellers
cheers

Just in case anyone is baffeld by the instructions, the connector block which Landrover refer to is at the BACK of the fusebox, not the front (although the connector design is the same, you'll note the number is different).

If you look up at the bottom of the fusebox from within the footwell, you'll see the connector block at the lowest point at the back of the box.

Mine went in and it's the best £30 I've spent on the car! (£20.50 + £9 p&p, brand new on Ebay last September)

Nice.

Must admit I'm tempted to get a pair of these, do they make a significant difference in light output on country lanes etc?

Also has anyone got a set of these fitted with the plastic 'A' bar as well? (Face-lift) - Excuse the slight hijack

Holy thread revival batman! Lol.

Thanks for the wiring tip as I still haven't got mine wired up. I gave up with them as I couldnt figure it out. Shall try again and see what difference it makes.

I don't like the plastic bar as its held with 6 screws ad the one I saw had all 6 going rather rusty.
My bar saved the lights when the car got reversed into a few months ago. New bumper and tailgate for the mito. I had a scratch on the bar but the light pod was undamaged thankfully.

hi all i am confused I have a set of these vub500960 fog light /driving lights what are they and what is the blue and purple wire is it the power one as the black one is the earth I am fitting them to a 51 plate pre face lift td4 cheers for any help

I've a set in my spares box. I'll look tomorrow. There's conflicting information on them.
I'll see what the reflector looks like tomorrow ;)

cheers totally confused if they are driving lights or fog lights the instructions say fog light but as above posts suggest they could be either

There's only one way to tell and that is to look at the lamps themselves. A fog lamp will have a beam control reflector. This basically breaks up the projected light into a controlled narrow beam. There will also be an anti glare cap covering the bulb.
A driving lamp will have a smooth concave reflector and often no anti glare cap.
I'll look at mine tomorrow and see. Mine are supposed to be spot lamps, with spot lamp switches in the kit too.

dont know if this helps

the inner ones are spots , outer fogs , as nodge said regarding the different lens patterns

i fitted the oem land rover loom m that came with the relays, switches and also all plug in

got it off ebay , was for a lhd but only had to extend 3 x wires

know i didn't pay much for the lhd loom , they are always coming up cheap , suppose because there lhd , but as mentioned just need the 3 x wires extending, simples

Hi, can anyone help please! I brought these pod lights genuine LR and it suggests pulling wire 11 out or the grey plug at the back of the fuse box (blue and purple).

However I have no life nor does the little light on the switch illuminate, can amyone confirm what is the correct wire and if so where to look and which colour is it in the grey plug?

Thanks all

I have the driving lamps fitted to mine, when I got it they didn't work as the previous owner obviously gave up trying to wire them into the fuse box.
I know the wiring for driving lamps is different to fog lamps but the wires that I needed to connect were actually the same colour codes / combinations as the wires they needed to be connected to (I used scotch locks as I had bare ended wires - no plug). Guessing that this may be the same for your fog lamps? Here's a pic of mine so you can see the red/orange cable and blue/green cable from the loom for the driving lights (coming from the left hand side of the pic) connected into the original wires to the fusebox.
Hope this helps.
