I have mixed feelings about it, its great to see our heritage being valued, preserved and celebrated, but when you see Aston with the "new" DB5s, and this Defender you do wonder why they couldn't have tried a bit harder when they were mass producing. Jaguar are a bit different as they are making some nice cars but I also fear that JLR are copying Mercedes in taking over the rights to all their historic spares with massive price rises. MB stopped the manufature of replica wheels in the EU courts and shut down the suppliers. There are almost no aftermarket spares for old Mercs now. I used to have an R107 (the old SL) with the impeller style wheels, they recently announced they are now availvable from MB main dealers for (only) £650 each. It changes from a hobby you can afford to toys for the rich.

There will be plenty of takers for these.

And yes JLR parts prices have become extortionate

£900 for a TD5 front exhaust pipe. £550 for a drive shaft. £120 for an indicator stalk (aftermarket £12)

christ almighty , don’t think the parts for mine are anywhere near that

Agreed, but keep a close watch on what MB are doing, fancy "Classic" magazine and department, reclaiming (by legal means) the rights so old designs for key parts - body panels, exhausts and wheels then making these main agent only combined with PR about a "proper restoration" using genuine parts. MB did "allow" aftermarket exhausts for cars over 25 years but its not clear how long that will last. Brexit is good news as UK is outside EU type approval and can now stay out and new EU regs extending copy right (that's the law they are using) will not be introduced in uk. Be interesting to see how Britpart etc deal with this, probably licences from JLR added to the prices. The new business model is for the orginal manufacturer to retain all the lifetime income from the vehicle.
