Yes a big problem if your car is after 1997. They are no good without changing wiring.

When I put them in the readings were the same as before ie. The original sensor

Then you need the later sensors.

Only by cutting and transposing wires. Look at RAVE for 96 and note colour codes and pin positions. Look at Rave for 97 on and note colour codes and pin positions. Cut and rejoin the relevant wires with solder and heat shrink. A lot easier to have the correct sensors. So stop buggering about and get some. Save yourself some pain.

no im all up for getting the right ones now I know there not interchangeable (I didnt know untill last night)
I was thinking of a short term fix as ive got to go to Birmingham tomorrow till wensday and was planing to rent a car but dont want to if I can get away with it

Replacing a duff sensor with an even older one can't be a good idea.
