Hi all,
I've searched both the forum and Google (promise) but I can't find any instructions explaining how to replace the inlet manifold gasket on a Defender 300TDI. Can anyone set me off on the right path?

I thought that it would be a case of undoing a few bolts and lifting off the inlet manifold, but I've seen some comments that suggest that the gasket is shared with the exhaust manifold, which doesn't look to be the case based on the shape/size of the gasket from here: http://www.paddockspares.com/err3785-inlet-manifold-gasket-300tdi.html

I thought the exhaust manifold sat below the inlet manifold?

If anyone happens to have a nice step-by-step guide that I can use, I will be eternally grateful!

Thank you,

Chris

one gasket does both ,remove inlet maniflod first 2 x 10mm socket 2 x 13mm socket ,tyou ay need a 7 mm spanner to undo guard to reach top rear , then exhaust can be undone ,you should be able to pull manifold away enough to swap gaskets another pair of hands helps at that point ,it is easier then removing down pipe turbo etc

Perfect, thanks! :)

Help!! Can anyone suggest an easy way to get to the nut under the centre of the exhaust manifold??

owning tools doesnt mean you should use them;)

The problem was more a lack of proper tools. After a quick shopping trip, to buy some decent tools, the job became much easier!

I even found time to paint the new crossmember. It's looking great :)

And didn't you notice the 8 holes on the gasket? Kind of answers your origional question.

ok, valid point... In my defense, the gasket hadn't arrived when I asked the question, but I suppose the picture should have been enough...
