a mate has one of these things you guys like:) its lost its gears backwards and forwards says clutch pedel goes up and down ok not dropped to the floor,my advice would be to burn it but as its his work van can someone suggest something to keep it alive?

my thoughts as well:D

Is it running a gearbox linkage system like VW do on their transverse boxes rather than a direct lever ?

If so I'd check the plastic joint on the gearbox end as the Vw ones can snap or get loose (mine is atm, need to get it sorted as selecting a couple of gears is awkward)

Essentially as they wear down the nylon bush inside causes excessive movement and it can then either break or feel like the gear is jammed when you go to select. New piece is £15 an an hour to fit on mine

will put that to him see if it helps:)

put it to him via email await a reply no idea if its a mk1 or 2 or what engine it has assuming its a td4 as its a daily but who knows?

Pretty sure they're all transverse boxes though aren't they ?

Either way being german for the majority of derv models it might share some of the weird designs they use…..the mongs at VW could quite easily have fitted a properly seated engine into the golf with a shift mover like on a fender box
