rear end grabbing knock when streeing at full lock

RR P38 (bmw) DSE Auto when the steering is on full lock in reverse getting a bad grabbing on the back end with a knocking sound as it release! can anyone give me the bad news?

Could be viscous coupling in transfer box. Have you got any abnormal tyre wear on rear tyres?

jack a front wheel up and try and turn wheel with a bar and socket on wheel nut should turn slowly and stiffly it you cant viscous coupling is seized up ,can be replaced without removing transfer box

thanks for reply! hard to say as ive only had her for three mths and all tyres were mixed sizes and shot when i got her so put full new set on and only done 800 miles on them! but befor the nocking it did fell like it was grabbing and slipping in the same situation!

are you big? Are you hanging off the wheel brace? If no then find someone who is, if yes, find a gravel car park go round in circles and you should see the tires kicking up. the VC will be shot.

Gearbox in neutral but you can leave the handbrake on. It requires a lot of effort to get the wheel to turn.

There's the cause....the answer is probably VC and diffs.
