New P38 Problems

Your car will operate without an RF unit, it just means that you'll have to be close to the rear right window when you operate the remote. Funnily enough that's roughly where I am when I'm about to open the driver's door! So leave that for the moment, especially if money is tight.

Correct it will operate with aerial removed but will not work if RF reciever is disconnected. If the RF reciever does not signal the BECM no locking unlocking function can take place.

Do they communicate if the car's locked with the key?
 
Brilliant - today I found my Ctek Battery charger I used to use when storing my classic mini!! So now I don't have to worry about disconnecting the battery until I know for sure it needs replacing

Errrm.. is that a trickle charger? I seem to remember someone on here saying that you shouldn't use one with a P38 because of all the ecu's

You'll have the poor bloke paranoid. Trickle charger is fine, sloppy jump starting can give 'moments of unusual interest'.

The Ctek are fine on cars with 1 or more ECUs I know I've used them on my classic minis that had various engines and mega squirt ECUs fitted :D
 
Hi, I've just bought my first P38 Diesel a week ago.

I've had it sat on my drive for a week and this weekend I've been out to fit parking sensors to it, when I was finished I attempted to start the vehicle and was hit by an array of error messages and a none starting engine?

also while I was looking at how I get to the thermostat I noticed the A/C belt missing?? The pump/condenser pulley wheel turns, but feels like it's come free from the pump internals? is it new pump time?

This is my first P38 and having looked around on the internet I'm wondering if I should of bought 1 :doh:
The A/C pump pulley is attached to a magnetic clutch.....the pulley will rotate easily with the clutch disengaged....once the HEVAC system demands the A/C, it pulls in the clutch to turn the pump....

So it may not be busted....

Should you have bought a P38???? only you can answer that, but trust me, whilst it will test your paitience, be a burden on the pocket and be a constant source of frustration...you will never be without it, ever.

Thanks, I didn't want that to be taken the wrong way as I do think my range is awesome and the drive home (over 60 miles) was great - so just wasn't expecting things to crop up after such a great run
