Discovery S & M light

hi its been a while since ive posted as i havnt got a landy at the minute, been looking at a disco for sale and its an td5 auto spares or repair. The s & m light is flashing and theres no drive it will reverse but no forward drive. ive done a lot of searching on here and cant find anything, has anybody else had this problem? thanks

could easy be clutch pack A burnt out ,which wouldnt necessarily be too expensive to fix once box is out ,but could be worse

ive read a few stories about a duff battery could cause this? not giving enough power to the auto box ecu?

Dodgy battery will give the M+S lights and only 4th gear drive, but it is drivable.
