After driving at night I realize my headlights are no better than a flashlight, so I'm putting in a new set of front head lights from Hella in my 84 defender which was rebuilt.

They are supposed to be drop in replacement headlights, HB2 bulbs. They are 12v, 60w on high beam so if I do my math right that's 5amps... Are my old wires 5amp or larger or do I need to replace the wires??

Also are there any tricks or issues that anyone has run into while do this simple fix??

Thanks

HB2 (9003 bulbs) are not HID, but even if they are, the law may be different in Chicago than the UK. The wiring will be capable of taking 5 amps, however it is best to wire the headlights through relays as per in the Q & A section.

Thanks for all your responses, I talked to the roversnorth guys who are the largest distributor of defender parts in the states and they are legal here.

Buster, want to say thanks for all of your step by step work on here. It's great help coupled with my haynes manual! I'll be checking between the two as I go through this job and many others as the years go by.

Mad Hat Man, I'll be looking into putting relays on them. There is a good electrician I know who I'll get a second opinion from.

Thanks
