Series 3 24v fuel gauge problem

And the next on the list of elektrikery things to solve is - the fuel gauge!! On mine (ex-Mil 24v FFR) now the fuel gauge is reading maximum up deflection (i.e. full) all the time. Even when I know the tank in question is empty.... This is a 24v twin tank set up so there is no voltage...

Series 3 Fan switch wiring problems!

Thank you very much indeed!! That is a tremendous help.:) All these years mine has been in upside down and incorrectly connected - never know these things until you see one that is wired correctly. As soon as the rain stops = again - I'll get mine connected this way and see what happens. I...

Series 3 Timing a 2.25 petrol ex military engine

Triple pulley means it's come from a 24v motor - normal fan belt is the inner one and drives the water pump. Outer two were the drive belts for the naffing great 90A generator. Starting handle drive dog should be there still. Timing mark is on the inner face of the inner pulley - it may not...

Series 3 Fan switch wiring problems!

Forgot to mention the other reason why I asked here first - it's been hammering down with rain more or less none stop since Sat evening and one thing I have learnt over the years is that going near the 24v electrics of an FFR when it is damp, let alone wet, is a painful experience. However - we...

Series 3 Fan switch wiring problems!

Photo was taken by wedging the phone's camera into the gap - about 3/4" - between the pod and the panel. My fingers barely fit, I can just about reach to get the Brown/Orange lead off to check the supply, Can't reach the lower terminals properly - maybe enough to get those off and off. So it...

Series 3 Fan switch wiring problems!

Having finally managed to rebuild a 24v blower units for my S3 FFR and getting it to fit under the wing in the correct spot it came time to check it out. First problem was found when, having temporarily connected the wires under the bonnet nothing happened. Checking the Brown/Orange feed wire...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Adapter sheared getting the caliper bolts out with a 12mm socket - and the ratchet failed doing them back up.. :) I was using a 1/2" drive 20mm socket on the retaining bolts with a breaker bar and lump hammer,

    P38A Brake pad change

Sadly management disagreed - it was stripped immediately and the parts recycled back into the production sequence then the shell went straight to the crusher. A shame - but the entire plant was laughing over it :-) Apparently the final inspectors face was a picture as he went to sign off. For...

    P38A Brake pad change

Not as bad as Ford - when I was an apprentice they put a 3 door Mk 3 Cortina through the assembly lines for a laugh. Got all the way to the final QC lines before anyone in authority noticed. Theoretically impossible - but the framing buck were manual back then, not automated so they ran the...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Thanks for checking - I will have to get them back out of the garage and have a look on the reverse. Today I had to bite the bullet and get two new tyres on the front wheels as I need the vehicle on Monday and Tuesday. Once the tyres were done I had a try at changing the disks. Calipers came...

    P38A Brake pad change

The UAZ brake drums differ in internal diameters on the same axle. 4 drums - 4 different diameters. QC was not a Soviet strong point!!

    P38A Brake pad change

Changing pads - no, Changing the entire disc - yes, because the caliper assembly on a P38 is nothing like the ones I am used to on Saabs. And even less like the drum brakes on a Series or a UAZ. At least on the P38 I can safely assume the discs are all the same size. Unlike the drums on a UAZ.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Well , it was a - relatively - dry day today so I thought I get some more work done. Jacked up the back end after freezing the suspension and thought I would do the simple job of just changing the O/S wheel first. Cue cynical if not insane laughter. I should have known better.... The...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Took the P38 to my local tyre fitters today - after nearly and hours work - which involved a lot of swearing and cursing the name of whoever did them up - the managed to free off all the wheel nuts for me. Best part was - there no charge as I am a regular customer. Now to wait for another rain...
