    Td4 clutch change

Hi rocco I went through this last year, parted with a fair chunk of cash, and bit the bullet.............. Read my post titled, 'Bit The Clutch Bullet......' Crockett

    Solid flywheel scam

Hi Greg Don't blame you for refitting a DMF. In my opinion, a FL is supplied with one, so refit one. :)

Insuring my 17 year old lad. Yup, I have searched!

Hi My daughter is 17, and has her own car and own insurance. The only issue is, she has a tracker fitted as part of the deal, and it's still over £2k for the first year, but will be halved by year two. She pays £200 a month, at a struggle, but she will build her no claims that way. It's pretty...

    HGF on a TD4??

I was minding my own business yesterday, putting my shopping in the back of my car, a 01 plate TD4, when I felt a tap on my arm. Turns around, and a guy is standing there. I said, "Alright", as you do. He said, " I had one of these, same year same colour. Had to get rid of it....... HGF." I...

    td4 irratic idle/black smoke

Hi If you've taken the EGR plate out, what did you replace it with? I would suggest starting there first. If you read the EGR thread, and follow the fitting instructions, this may cure your issue ;)

    leave standing for 3 months

Hi Mine was left for a little under a year, outside, by a tree before I bought it. The front brake caliper seized by the time I got it home, the rear drums were both seized, but freed up with a, ahem, light tap with a lump hammer (!), and upon removal of the plastic engine cover, I discovered...

    VCU - Bell Engineering

Hi Austen Once I've saved my pocket money (!) I'll be heading your way hopefully to get both the VCU and a IRD, as I'm running in Mondo at the mo. :)

    Freelander 1 TD4 help

Hi The door lock issue is the central locking mechanism....... just changed my drivers side one. Sounds like you need two :( You can get them, used, from fleabay....... I wouldn't recommend it though because you don't know what you're getting. I would buy new. They are about 70 - 90 squid...

Done All The Aircon Tests, but..........

All great advice guys, especially about the compressor lubricant. Thanks

Done All The Aircon Tests, but..........

Hi EBT yes, that was the first thing I checked, then the compressor clutch for movement / freeplay too, just in case.

Done All The Aircon Tests, but..........

Those are the prices I'm getting too Hippo. I'm hoping it is a simple case of regas, and it'll all work as it should. I don't really want to fork out for a new compressor

Done All The Aircon Tests, but..........

Well at least I'll get a definite answer too, if I regas it. Cheers Robin :)

Done All The Aircon Tests, but..........

Hi Robin Low gas pressure will stop engaging? If that's the case then a proper regas will be the order of the day.:)

Done All The Aircon Tests, but..........

Good morning lads and lasses I have had no aircon since I bought the FL, but put fixing it on the back burner until now. I have read through the various threads, looked on various generic aircon sites, but still have no definitive answer. The clutch on the compressor isn't engaging. Now...

    Leaking boot?

**UPDATE** I don't know how it's stopped, but I'm putting it down to the new seal I fitted last year, that has maybe bedded in. It's been dry now for months, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the problem has been corrected.......... ;) Good luck with yours.........

What have you done to your Freelander today

Changed the drivers' door central locking mechanism (not an easy job when you have shovel hands!), it took a good couple of hours. But it's done, and I'm happy. Gave the old boy some fresh oil, and some oil, air and pollen filters, although he's only done 5,000 miles since the last change but...

    clutch

Hi On 145k miles, regardless of the advice NOT to change the DMF, I would say change it, especially if you're planning on keeping it for a while. And also, fit a solid one at your peril........... the solid flywheel does cause juddering problems once it 'beds in', as a work colleague will...

Hi Rob As above, there is a ton of info on this inherent problem, with as many solutions too................ some not as practical as others!! Good luck and :welcome:
