Series 3 heater control valve leak

Morning My S3 (88 2.25 petrol) overheated very rapidly recently, normally runs fine in centre of temp gauge when warmed up. Coolant sprayed all round engine bay (see gif). Assume diaphragm in heater control valve has failed, or am I barking up the wrong tree? Grateful for any ideas, thanks.

Series 3 Why a third brake spring?

Hi all, Have just started replacing brake shoes on my 1974 S3 88 for the first time since I’ve had her. Standard 10” brakes. But as well as the leading shoe pull-off spring and the return spring, the front wheels (and for all I know the back as well, haven’t got that far yet) have a third...

    Kangarooing uphill under acceleration

Hi, I've had a 1974 S3 88 station wagon for about a year - still sorting her out slowly. She runs well most of the time, but recently when starting to go uphill from level in 4th, and well before the point where I'd expect to change down, she starts kangarooing violently. Lifting off the...

    new exhaust still blowing

Hi all I've recently replaced the complete exhaust on my S3 88 station wagon as it was getting a bit elderly and was blowing at the manifold joint (not surprising, as I discovered that only two out of the three studs had nuts on...) I've tightened everything up evenly and properly snug...

    leak from fuel pump

Hello all First time I've posted here. I've recently acquired a 1974 Series 3 SWB station wagon, 2.25 petrol. It's leaking fuel from the union at the carb side of the fuel pump. I've been careful not to overtighten it but after a certain point the tighter it goes the more it leaks when I...
