k sussed it, well got the bloomin thing closed again. I pressed the button to tilt it down at the same time as i stuck a big flat bladed screwdriver in the spline and turned it anticlockwise, as soon as i removed the screwdriver and took my finger off the button it tried to open again though...

playing around with my 91 RR and found the fuse was missing for the sunroof, put fuse in and motor behind the facia was buzzing away but nothing happening to the sunroof, i unscrewed the facia and put a screwdriver in the motor spline to give it a shove and lo and behold the tilt operated fine...

I've got a 91 Vogue SE 3.9 are the ones off a P38 the same type then ?
