Funny noise, battery light and lots of steam

Having sorted out the fan belt and that the alternator and water pump are not seized I still have a problem. The battery light is not coming on at all (another thread has given some advice) The other issues is that there appears to be an escape of exhaust gasses in the engine bay. When it...

    Replacement Alternator

Thought I had checked the wires carefully. Will redo tomorrow. Bulb may be the answer. Is this common when changing alternator?

    Replacement Alternator

Is all alternator. Turns out it is not seized but the adjustor for the belt was interfering with the metal fan hence it wouldn't turn. No new alternator required. However I have now put it back right and the battery light will not come on. Not even before ignition. Any ideas?!

    Replacement Alternator

Following on from my other thread I could do with some help with the alternator please. I am trying to find a replacement. The unit fitted at the moment is a Lucas LRA100 with part number 23842. I have checked the Haynes which says that the original Lucas 11AC would have been 45 amps. I can't...

Funny noise, battery light and lots of steam

OK. So after discovering that the standard fan belt was way too long and vastly underestimating the size of the on required I managed to get the right part. Drained and flushed the radiator like a good chap and lovingly topped up with new coolant etc. Collar friendly neighbour and get the...

Funny noise, battery light and lots of steam

Ok. How would I tell if it is the water pump? Would it just be impossible to turn the pulley? No hose on that nozzle. I suppose while I am ordering parts a new temperature sender might be a good investment. Cheers

Funny noise, battery light and lots of steam

Evening A bit of help required please. Driving down the motorway (sacrilage I know) when I had a funny metallic grating type noise from the engine bay. I stopped for a look but couldn't see anything obvious. A short while after the same noise happenned but a bit louder and the red battery...

    Dingocroft Parts

Just a quick note of recommendation for Dingocroft. Some of the best service I have had for a while. I ordered some bits for my Series 2 on Tuesday at about 2230. They were delivered the next day. Not only that - there were a few bits that I needed for the job which I hadn't ordered but had been...

    Series 2 Petrol Won't Start

A kind offer. Happily I won't be needing it. I gave it a suck (oo, er, missus) and then fired it immediately into life. A blast (you know what I mean) around the roads to ensure some decent running and recharge the battery I had emptied while playing and you'd never know it had stopped...

    Series 2 Petrol Won't Start

Ta. Do you mean sucking the bit by the carb? This will then bring fuel from the tank, through the pump and up the pipe. If there is fuel then pump has gone wrong. If no fuel then I have to take it off any way to find which pipe has blockage. There is fuel in it. I thought of this first and...

    Series 2 Petrol Won't Start

Ladies and Gents A bit of help please. Landy was MOT'd on 15th which was the last time I used it. Went to start it and it won't. Engine turns over fine but no ignition. I took the spark plugs out and they spark agains't the block when cranking. They were very dirty. Is it possible they...

    My god it rattles

The brakes were the first thought I had. I might start with that.

    My god it rattles

You make it sound so simple. Time to read the Haynes that came with it..
