So having done an oil and filter change today I have measured in 5.80 litres of oil and it comes to the full line on the dipstick. That is what the Rimmer Bros oil capacity chart says is the capacity of a 200Tdi Discovery - where my and many other conversion engines come from.
However - just checked my Haynes manual (always correct??) and that says 6.85 with filter which is at odds with the chart I have linked above so who knows.
Just chatted to Rimmer Brothers and they tell me that Discovery and Defender sump profiles are indeed different and so have a different oil capacity. A 200Tdi from a Discovery will need 1 litre less oil than from a Defender. So if you have an engine from a Disco in a Defender or anything else...
But that doesn't explain the different capacities suggested in the table. When I put 6.8 into my (disco derived 200Tdi) I had to let a litre out to get it to the full mark on the dipstick.
I'm going to use 5.8 litres next time I do a change and my betting is it'll sit at the full mark on the...
This may have been addressed before so forgive me if it's the case. I have a 1965 s2A and a 1986 range over classic both with 200Tdi's from a 200 series discovery.
When I did an oil change on the RRC and used 6.8 litres as many suggest (in searches) it showed way over the dipstick max mark...
TD5 responds very well to tuning, its a great engine. Mine has 150,000 on the clock and it has just had a stage 1 tune - TD5 Alive did it - its a 1999 so they removed the old chip, burnt a new map onto a new chip and soldered it back inth the ECU. It pulls like a train now - I used to have a...
Co-op insurance don't mind 12 seats either - Lancaster didn't want to know despite claiming to be a 4x4 specialist and despite insuring my 90 with them for 4 years - they suggested that I should modify the 110 csw to reduce the number of seats - so I said I would, then they passed me onto their...
As far as I know LR never used top hat liners but had new castings made to resolve the weakness in the cyclnder walls - cracking under heat pressure and thus causing coolant pressurisation.
RPI has stuff worth a read otherwise the best answer is a new short engine from someone. I understand...
Mine was purchased with the expectation of spending cash to get it right and I was right. It was only £2k but I expect will have cost around £5k once all the jobs are done. That is still a lot of car for the money.
Mine is an M reg and was still on it's first set of airbags. I have been told...
I have recently bought a £2k 4.6 HSE with the expectation of spending money to bring it up to standard (hadn't quite anticipated how much!!??). The best advice I could now give anyone in getting a P38A would be to expect it to cost about £4-5K even if you only pay £2k for it. Lots to replace and...
I have also just replaced the battery, the radiator, two new air springs (rears to follow in spring) new altenator, new tyre (£200). I am hoping that all this (not to mention the tornado chips and magnecore leads) will mean I get some trouble free motoring although I suspect not.
P38s may be...
I have RR sport wheels on my P38a. They are smashing however, I have just had to buy a new tyre and the price was a shock (on top of all of the other expenditure recently) £211 fitted!
I would go for practical mods - tornado chips or similar - goes like stink mid range now. New battery - just to make sure! manual air suspension inflation capacity - just in case, add some k-seal (or Irontite) to the coolant - again just in case.
Right now to reply to my own thread - the sport mode now works and the random error messages have ceased.
Why? - I changed the battery after the starting becam sluggish. So just to confirm what other various threads say many issues seem to be related to low battery power including in my case...
Hi
Go for Magnecore blue - about £80 a set but they are smashing.
