Help discovery 2 will not start after timing chain snapped

still don't know how it knows it is on the power stroke, maybe it fires injectors at every TDC but will only injects fuel when the lobe on the cam shaft is in the right position, ie every other TDC per cylinder.

Help discovery 2 will not start after timing chain snapped

apparently there is no cam sensor on TD5, trying to work out how it knows which cylinder is at power stroke.

Help discovery 2 will not start after timing chain snapped

also found this on another site, Thanks everyone, I did say I had fuel pressure at engine, but forgot it should be around 60psi. Off with tank again and stripped fuel pump. Found 1 carbon brush broken, shaft not running true and rotor binding on stator, which was full of fuel. Fitted new Genuine...

Help discovery 2 will not start after timing chain snapped

check compression, turn engine over by hand should be very hard at times, if compression ok, fuel is not being injected or being injected at the wrong time, the timing is created by the crank shaft sensor and the cam shaft sensor, if one of these is not working it will not know when to inject...

    Discovery 300 tdi

That's hot, just check the coolant level regularly, at that sort of temperature it would not take long to cook the head if it drops low.

Broke down on the way to work

use the drain screw on bottom of filter to check for water in fuel, could be lift pump, you will have to loosen the fuel input pipe on the back of the injector pump to check this, move crank shaft round so that lobe on cam shaft is in the low position so that the lever on the lift pump will work.

Disco 1 Engine and Box removal

if you have chocolate crane, remove engine mounts while holding with grane, leave gearbox mounts alone, then drop the engine past the steering box and the bolts on the bell housing are easy to get to for splitting engine and gear box, jam a lump of wood under gearbox between gearbox & gearbox...

    2004 disco 2 Transferbox & Gearbox overhauling

cant see why you would replace a gearbox that has no problems, unless the noise is coming from the gearbox, if its noisy in 1.2.3 but quiet in 4th and noisy in 5th then it will be a leyshaft bearing. Steve

Looks like a cracked block, no?

did you check for flatness of block when head was off, and cracks between cyl and water jacket. Steve

Smoking after overrun and stop start

Blue is burning engine oil, Turbo seals, valve guides/seals, sounds like valve guides/seals if you get it after over run, sucking oil down the inlet guides, new stem seals and check wear on guides, move valve up 8mm any more than 0.15mm side ways movement and valves/guides are shot. Steve

    What's this head look like?

mine takes ages to warm up on idle, sounds like there is no coolant moving around at all, the pump should circulate the coolant around the head till the thermostat opens, maybe james is right and it is being blown out, but you should have seen this as bubbles coming in the expansion tank.

    Alarm removal 300 tdi S1

the spider (imobiliser) lives deep behind the dash, put there intentionally by land rover to be inaccessible as possible, also they do not tell anyone how it works, it would be easier to rewire the whole thing than to try and disable it.
