2.25 Diesel cuts out when warm

Also think the idle screw thread is a bit knackered so probably the idle screw has also been progressively unwinding under vibration, hence the nylocs and threadlocker.

I think so. As she warmed up and the arm moved away from the screw the tickover just dropped off. When cold the tickover seemed perfectly normal to be honest but clearly the idle screw was only just keeping it on the throttle arm. Never even crossed my mind until I saw it because I'd never...

2.25 Diesel cuts out when warm

Update on this issue, resolved a few weeks ago now, but forgot to post here. So, on starting to remove the existing injector pump to fit the second hand unit, I noticed that the idle screw was barely touching the throttle arm. It was putting pressure on but only very slightly. So I left it as...

Yup, agreed and always gives me something to smile about when I go into the zone. Cheap insurance, no road tax and 100% ULEZ compliant. Happy days.

2.25 Diesel cuts out when warm

I know, the madness of owning a classic in a city tryingto turn electric! Soon as the Ebay one arrives I'll swap them over and see how I go from there. Update to follow.

Thanks Col. Theres a second hand unrefurbed one on Ebay. Tempted to buy it so I can get up and running and then get the current one examined properly. Nightmare.

Thanks. Feeling that you and Col could well be correct. Don't have another pump to swap over. Damn!

2.25 Diesel cuts out when warm

Thanks Col. And you think that only manifests itself when the injector pump is hot? Interesting you should suggest that. When messing with her yesterday I found that, when cold enough to just hold on idle, if I manually played with the throttle lever on the pump itself I could get her to...

2.25 Diesel cuts out when warm

I think this thread has got confused because it was originally started by a member who was experiencing an issue SIMILAR to mine but the causes of his (now resolved) are not apparently the SAME as mine. Other members have then cut and pasted (to demonstrate a point) the original members...

The RPM isn’t me, previous post, have no such symptom.

2.25 Diesel cuts out when warm

Thanks. Certainly not impossible but my pump was reconditioned less that 12 months ago and has been fine so really hope it’s not the issue.

2.25 Diesel cuts out when warm

Thanks Ian, that a really good thought. The comments about overfilling the tank weren’t mine, they were cut and pasted by another member about someone else’s issue. What your saying about a lack of air as opposed to air getting in makes perfect sense, will explore that one further and see if...

2.25 Diesel cuts out when warm

So opened the injectors and there is fuel going in (and yes smoke). Taking off the air filter and pipe makes no real difference. I let her run stationary for an hour, idled fine, then 57 minutes in cut out.

    Yup, understood, will do. Thanks.

2.25 Diesel cuts out when warm

I have checked the injectors but will again. There are no apparent fuel leaks anywhere. No smoke when it happens insofar as I've observed and have ruled out head gasket etc. The tricky thing is that I either need to put on the miles to get the problem or leave the engine running for an hour or...

2.25 Diesel cuts out when warm

Thanks for the responses so far. I'm confident its not a fuel level issue, tank sender and gauge pretty good and I always reset the trip anyway as a belt and braces measure. Will double-check though although still wouldn't explain why fine until warmed up and fine again when starting from cold...

2.25 Diesel cuts out when warm

Morning. Jumping into this thread because I'm experiencing a similar issue with my 1976 Series 3 Diesel. Over the last year she's had a new lift pump, injector pump, injectors, fuel spill rail, copper pipes (injectors to injector pump), timing chain, water pump etc. Drove home last night...

Many thanks. Old girl is a diesel so leak less obvious to find but have found a place in Brentfood. Thanks again.

Mechanics in London / London Area

Wondering if anyone can recommend a mechanic/garage in the London area that 'understands' Series Land Rovers? I need to get a fuel issue resolved but just don't have time myself at the moment. Cheers.

    Series 3 Indicator Problem

I seem to have sorted it insofar as I’ve had no more problems since I tinkered with it but time will tell. I brought a new 3 pin flasher unit but thought I’d wait for the issue to start again before changing it out. Otherwise I’m going to get into a parts swapping game without knowing if a...
