The only way I can explain it, is I had the wires going from the metal holder, to the bulb bayonet, and one filament in the bulb was lighting up- the brake. I couldn’t get the rear light to work at all

I didn’t think it was at first, so I carefully lifted it a tiny bit, still nothing. I tried replicating the holder, with 2 wires, coming out the holder, and touching the base of the bulb- and even then, the rear light filament wasn't lighting up.

Definitely. There is power going through both pins at the bottom of the connector. It’s really odd. Never had this with any of my cars and been driving for 20+ years!? It was odd that the old bulb was pretty much welded in.. I don’t know if that’s causing a problem. Just so strange that the...
