    Series 3 Leafspring preload

Should say I only changed the back ones. The fronts are for another day…

    Series 3 Leafspring preload

When I did mine I loaded up the back with as much weight as I could til the chassis distance was roughly as per the book. Then drove about a while. Then tightened it all up. But with new springs being so variable I’m not sure the book distances are that valid any more so no idea if it was the...

Series 3 Red top pattern fuel pump pressure

The question is what devilry was the PO trying to cure when he stuck the screw there in the 1st place? Now it’s gone, 3 months down the road you’ll no doubt figure out what the bodge was trying to sort - just after you’ve forgotten you removed it :) Good sort tho.

Series 3 smiths snail heater fan

The heater bits are classed as an Optional Extra on my S3 and so the parts are in a supplements. Can’t remember exactly which one but think they are all available here: http://smithies.co.nz/land_rover/ If you can’t see it let me know and I’ll dig out my hard copy and find the actual title.

    Shocking forum

Sorry, and you are who exactly? What’s prompted this little tantrum of yours? It’s certainly not a description id recognise of this place which I’ve found nothing but helpful whenever I’ve been stuck. Each to their own tho I guess but why waste your time trolling a whole site? Odd.

    Chassis too high off springs?

If it’s like mine it’ll be to fill up the space between the bush and the bolt holder. Either my bushes were too short or my bracket was too wide. Or they are meant to be like that and everyone has washers. And I got my clearance done by loading everything I owned into the back until the...

Removal of oil bath air filter cartridge

that page was from the 2.25 petrol. Diesel might be different. Tho thinking about it I don’t remember mine having a gasket either!

👍 glad you got it sorted.

    Lurching Series 3

What carb have you got and when did you last give it a good clean? Mine acted similarly a time ago and servicing the carb fully sorted it out. then I put in a small inline fuel filter just before it enters the carb and haven’t had an issue since (well, not that issue anyway 😉).

Series 3 What is this electrical component?

My set up is a lot simpler. Just choke light connected to the cable switch. When you pull the cable the light comes on. When you push it back it goes off. So it’s lit when the choke is on no matter what temp the engine - just reminds you you have the choke on. You do still need the cable with...

Series 3 What is this electrical component?

+1. Got one on my s3 109 petrol from 1981. Was cheap to replace when mine packed in.

    Brake light circuit

Can’t help on the first part but as to what the switch is…it’s a pressure gauge that should be hooked in to the brake warning light in the dash. If servo produces no pressure the light comes on to tell you you’ll need to jump on the pedal to try and stop. Least that’s how it works on my...

    Series 3 Body Removal

I get you… has been my approach for the last 10 years but last proper check showed it was so bad I needed to ditch it as the daily and lay it up over winter to avoid the salt to try and slow down the rot. If I’m going to keep it going I think I need to take the plunge and get to grips with it or...

+1 on this. Exactly same for me on my 2.25 petrol 109 in every respect.

    Series 3 Body Removal

Thanks. I think I’ll start with roof and tub as suggested and see what’s what. It’s the top of the chassis where I’ve never seen that worries me most. I’ve patched at the rear previously - welding with the body on but doing it upside down is a right pain and probably didn’t do very good job of...

    Series 3 Body Removal

Thanks gents for the replies...If the weather (and enthusiasm) holds I shall attempt to undo some bolts and see where it gets me... no doubt i'll discover everywhere it's attached is rotten and I'll never get it back on again, but least i'll be able to see how bad the chassis really is and take...

    Series 3 Body Removal

Afternoon All - been a while since I was on here...not having the Landy as my daily driver any more has reduced the constant need for fettling to a far more relaxing and enjoyable occasional tinker ;) I feel that now might be the time to bite the bullet and really get to grips with the rot on...

    Petrol leak

Worth checking the rubber hose piece that links the filler to the tank first as it’s easy to look at under the side. Mine had perished a while back and leaked on filling so if you put fuel in not long ago it might have absorbed into that and coming down through there. Cheap and easy to replace...
