installing new headset and multi-cd player

The standard sub in the tailgate has a little amp built into it and just needs its two cables (in the pink block) attached to a "line out". If you connect the sub's cables to standard speaker outs (left/right front/rear) you risk overloading the amp when you turn the volume up [ to 11 :) ]...

    Peeling dash board

Cheers, Tiga. Okay, not Landrover employees making the mistake on the glue, but of judgement instead. I will investigate the dash trim; any direct links out there? Tana.

    Peeling dash board

My 300 TDi has the dash covering on the passenger side curling-up, off the the car. It's the stuff next to the air vents under the windscreen; it is unpeeling rapidly toward the centre of the dashboard. The lip seems to be stopping me from a simple glue job or is it just a case of contact...

running your car on vegtable oil

Game over for Vegetable Oil / Cooking oil as fuel. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageImport_ShowContent&id=HMCE_PROD1_024771&propertyType=document HMRC have reissued their note on how to pay tax on your veg oil (ie make it legal...

New CD Player , will it fit in my disco ? help

You don't say what model you've got. My 300 TDi Disco has standard (ISO) wiring. The third, non-standard plug, goes to the amplifier that drives the boot's (woofer?) speakers. I have not tried running them off the rear speakers' output from the head unit as I don't want to blow the boot amp. As...

running your car on vegtable oil

I said earlier in this thread that I would give you some fuel consumption figures, so here they are in the interests of keeping the thread alive. As ever I tried to keep everything as constant as possible. These figures are for a Dunbar - Edinburgh commute, so a mix of the A1 and city centre...

running your car on vegtable oil

tiga, Sounds great! hoep to hear back from you soon. Where did you get the heat exchanger? Where did you end-up siting it on the 300 Tdi to keep the pipework minimal? Hope to see the pics. Tana

running your car on vegtable oil

Does anyone have figure for fuel consumption pre & post running on vegetable oil mix? I am thinking that there will be some kind of performance drop as the oil may not burn as energetically as diesel. This would mean a reduction in miles per gallon etc. I am waiting on my tax forms...

    tachometer is shot

Not a reply but my 300 TDi was only working to about 1500 RPM since June. Yesterday (first time in heavy rain ?) the rev counter started working all the way. Sounds like a dry solder problem but if anyone's got any suggestions to keep it working then let me know. I had looked at a fix that...

    Central locking not unlocking

My central locking does not fully unlock my boot or front doors. The locks' bolts raise and lower but not enough to let the handles, either inside or out, open the door. If you use a key in the lock or hand on the bolt you can raise the bolt the 3mm or so required to open the door...

    Brake disc Thickness

Thanks for the excellent reply. No ABS on my car, so your hard numbers appreciated, but they still seem small even for minima - Just have to wait until the new discs arrive to see fat ones. I will replace the pipes, as this vehicle carries the clan about. Will investigate some kind of...

    Brake disc Thickness

I had my 300TDi '94 Disco on a ramp to see check if the previous owner was as concientious as they should've been. The brake discs looked rather thin (approx 10 mm) to my un-educated eyes for stopping a big car. What should they be? I couldn't see this info in the Owner's or Haynes manuals...

    tool & recovery storage

Colin, I have done similar in mini-vans for market traders and an electrician. I used sheets of thick ply-wood and held them apart with 'planks' of the same. This formed a series of deep 'pigeon holes' Doing it yourself means that the holes are the right size for your current tools...

    Retro Fitting Air Con 300TDi

Thanks Tigapiglet, I was quoted c1500 pounds for a fitted system here. 450 + a day of my time < 1500 I have contacted matfords. to see if they have any left and the price. I will report back. I will need to check for SRS (airbag?) and ABS. Thanks for all your help.

    Retro Fitting Air Con 300TDi

Cheers for the quick reply, ColinTandy. Now, do I go to breakers or are there kits that you know of? The web points to gas rechargers and system maintainers but not fitters or suppliers of kit. Though having surfed around I now know that I want an intercooler and other tweaks...

    Retro Fitting Air Con 300TDi

I would like to Retro Fit Air Con to my 300 TDi (Late 94 L). Is this do-able? Are there retro fit kits for this sort of thing? Probably need a specialist garage because of handling refridgerants - any near Edinburgh? Else is this a dealer-only job? Any advice appreciated. Thanks, Tana.
